Knowledge Base support case for AllWebMenus, abstracted and stripped of all user’s private info.

Initial Email Subject: Menu does not appear on preview pages
Support Case Month: February 2013

I use SiteSpinner Pro to build my webpages. I cannot get my menu to show up on my project pages in preview mode. Of course this should show me what my published page will look like.

If I "publish to disk" and compile to that page, then open the local page with "HTML Kit" everything looks fine, the menu is placed and operational. If I try to open the preview pages in the editor I get a script error popup that says "The value of the property 'awmBuildMenu' is null or undefined, not a function object."
If I try to compile to the preview page nothing happens.

What suggestions do you have to allow me to see a finished page before I move it to my website?

Thanks

Hello,

I am afraid that the preview of SiteSpinner (as well as that of most web builders) does not support complex JavaScript components.

In Dreamweaver or Expression Web there is an option of “live preview” (or “SuperPreview” or something like that in EW) which does fully support JavaScript. I do not know if SiteSpinner has a similar option, but if it does, then the menu should work there.

Initial Email Subject: want to trigger a dropdown menu by mousing over an image
Support Case Month: February 2013

Hello:

Site is {URL REMOVED}

I hope the attachment demonstrates what I want to accomplish.

When hovering or clicking a column header or the image directly below it, we want the drop part of the menu to appear.

We want to add to the function of the menu to get the dropdown when either the column head or the image is moused over or clicked.

I can send the existing menu file, if needed.

Thanks for considering my question.

Regards,
Joe

Dear Joe,

I believe the best way to achieve this would be to actually have the image as part of the menu item. You can do this easily if you set the menu item as HTML and add your image normally.

menu item as HTML

Then you need to fix the submenu position here:

Is there some means of forcing a menu to be the same width as the image it is attached to? I have the menu looking perfect in my browser but it overhangs a full inch in the site owner's browser. This has actually perplexed me for quite a while. Thank  you!
Patricia

Hello,

It seems that this happens because Firefox does not recognize the “Arial Black” font! Hence your menu in Firefox has a different font (probably “Times New Roman” which is the default) and it appears much smaller.

You cannot set the menu to always have the same width as the positioning image (e.g. changing widths when you change the image), but you can easily set it to have a specific minimum width:

set menu minimum width

This will correct the width problem, but the menu will still have a different font in each browser. To fix this issue too, you should probably use “arial” instead of “arial black”.

Since the arial font is smaller, the entire menu shrank and is now too short. My client is checking with Chrome and Explorer 9.  I am using Explorer 10, the shortness is the same for all three browsers.  Anyway to get it the same size?

It is in the screenshot of my previous email!  Smile
