Just upgraded to 5.3 Build 908 every time we open all web menus we get a message saying incompatible version of Server-Side API is installed, where do we get the latest version,

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

This sounds as if the Server-Side API dll was not properly removed, possibly because it was locked by windows.

Please try uninstalling AllWebMenus and then installing again. Let me know if this fixed the problem.

Hope you guys are well?

I would like to know if it is possible to adjust the size of an individual menu item. It seems that it defaults to the size of longest menu item?

Thanks, Johann

Dear Johann,

I am guessing that you have set the menu items to be “uniform”. Please look for the following option and uncheck it:

menu uniform items

Note that this property also exists for each submenu level.

Hello,

Please look at {URL REMOVED} using Internet Explorer 10. The menu looks as it’s intended and appears in AWM preview.

However, the menu expands horizontally to the right in Safari, Opera and Chrome. In Chrome and Safari, it also shifts down on the page.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,

Chuck

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Chuck,

I checked your menu and I see that the letters in the main menu items are rendered a little bit differently in IE10 (possibly due to the IE “cleartype” feature) and it is somewhat smaller. Specifically, the “Photo Gallery” text is 74px in IE10 as opposed to 78px in the other browsers. This causes the specific menu item to be 4px wider, and since you have set all the menu items to be “uniform” all your menu items are now 4px wider, causing the menu to be 28px wider.

The best solution would probably be to remove the main menu item padding so that the menu is smaller in all browsers, then set the menu minimum width to 953px.

Kostas,

The IE10 rendering matches the preview in AWM. The only browser that does.

Shouldn’t there be an adjustment in AWM so a workaround like this isn’t needed? I made a couple of changes and it’s better now.
The font size difference is one thing. But the menu also shifts downward in Chrome and Safari.

Dear Chuck,

The IE10 matches the preview, exactly because the standard IE component is used for the preview browser.

Regarding the height of the menu, this is also due to the difference in the font rendering. I assume that this is what you mean by “shifts downwards”.

I am afraid that there is no way for us to automatically adjust the menu to accommodate for this font difference. If you set a minimum width/height to the menu, then the required padding can be auto-calculated.

On the other hand if you set a specific padding, then it would be wrong for us to change this padding (even if we could) in order to make the menu have the same width between browsers.

Hi,

I just upgraded to Build #220 of Likno Web Tabs Builder and something has changed in the menu and I cannot find the error, or how to fix it. I've actually got about six of these and I'm trying to get one to work before doing the other 5.

If you go to {URL REMOVED}, you will see the menu working correctly from the way it was built in the previous build. I have migrated the files to a new version of the store {URL REMOVED} and cannot find the problem in the new interface.

Please investigate and advice.

Thanks,

John

Dear John,

I checked your page and the main difference I noticed is that in the “14” menu the items are set to “uniform” (so all have the same width).

Please try changing this here:

Hi Kostas,

Thanks for your reply. I have already found the problem and am in the process of making it responsive. It is not going well, but I will keep working on it. I have some other ideas.

Thanks,

Support Case Month: May 2013

hi,

because I want users to be able to right-click on a menu entry to open in a new tab, I've just changed a menu structure from being a javascript menu to being CSS with UL/LI menu population.

However, the live menu items have gone from displaying as expected to being incredibly narrow (about 20px wide) - and yet they still display as expected within AWM's preview.

I'm guessing that I need to change something somewhere, but I can't find what needs changing. Could you please suggest what I need to change within AWM to get it to display properly, please?

cheers

Neil

Hello Neil,

Our developer told me that the problem is with the "Size (Width/Height)" property when the menu is "CSS Menu".

You need to have these values to "non-Auto", which you do, but it seems that you did not have them in proper (larger) values.

For example:

CSS menu width height

Please make sure that you specify proper width and height there, for all levels of your menu.

The PREVIEW showed OK because it only shows the JavaScript menu version, not the CSS menu version which you actually have selected to use (we will update this so it is not this confusing).

Thank you! I can't believe I didn't spot that myself.

Now I'm finding that I can't get the fine control with the menu item positions that I could with the JS menu. Is there a way to have each main item be a particular size?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello Neil,

I am afraid that this is not possible in CSS Menus (per-item customization).

Do you really need to use a CSS Menu? Because you can also use the "Javascript Menu" with the UL/LI population option, which is the same as far as SEO is concerned.

hi Aris,

it was the 'open in new tab' by right-clicking I was wanting, which from your knowledge base I believe can only be done in a CSS menu? Is that right?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Yes, this is right.

Then, you need to use the CSS Menu, but with the same width for all items.

Thanks.

I've reverted to the JS menu type, because that positioning is more important to me than right-clicking.

Thanks for taking the trouble with my problem all the same. :-)

best
