Hello, I had a working drop-down menu running for years on my site: {URL REMOVED}. But week before last it disappeared.

Today I renewed my subscription and updated my installation of Likno, recompiled the file and FTPd to the server. Cleared my browser cache but still can't see the menu in IE 10. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hello,

It seems that although you compiled your menu with the latest version and you indeed uploaded the “menu.js”, you neglected to upload the “awmdata” folder which has all the library files:

Please upload this too in order to fix the problem.

Is there anything extra I can do to make the menu load faster?
How does it load for you?

Thanks, Pat...

Dear Pat,

I checked your page and I saw that the menu does take a bit of time the first time it loads, because all of your items are images and they take some time to download. After the first load, when you visit another page the menu appears instantly as the images are cached in the browser, so this is not much of a problem.

However if you want to make your menu even faster/lighter, then the solution is to keep only two background images (for normal & mouseover) and use text for your menu items.

I appear to have aspects of two menus appearing on my site, and do not know how to correct this. I have deleted and republished the menu.js, but that did not correct the issue.
On my "correct" version the second tab from the left should be Contact Us. The older version was About Us.
The older version shows up each time, until the page is refreshed, but when you leave that page and return, the old format appears again.
Please help!

Hello,

I just visited your page and the menu says “Contact”. This is indeed what your online compiled menu has.

I noted however that you have two Linking Codes, the second of which is leading to a “page not found”. I recommend that you remove this second Linking Code:

two linking codes

Regarding viewing the latest menu, when you make changes to your site you should always make sure that you delete your browser’s cache files.

The menu was working fine. I wanted to add a new item under a submenu group. It's showing up in the "preview" and seems to be fine. However, when I upload all the menu files it does not reflect the change in the menu. I have tried uploading each and every file under the folder called "menu" which is the folder for all the components of the menu. I use Microsoft Expression 4 to design pages and the index.htm is not one updated with the .dwt file. All other of the .htm pages on the site are updated using the .dwt page. I have set the "link menu" to put the code on the index and the .dwt page. Any idea why this will not update correctly?
Thanks,
Gary

Dear Gary,

What should the new menu show? This is what I see online:

new menu preview

If you do not see the same thing, then you just need to delete your browser’s cache files (a.k.a. “Temporary Internet Files”).

If this is what you see, but you uploaded something else, then please double check your process:

1) When you compile does the compiled file change? You can delete the local “menu.js” file to make sure that a new one is created.

2) When uploading, make sure you are uploading to the correct folder. Again, delete the online “menu.js”, refresh your page to confirm that there is no menu, then upload the new one.

Much appreciated. I tried to send a later support email that the problem was user error, but your system would not accept the support email for some unknown reason. I had been saving to the wrong folder and that is why it was not showing up on web. Once I figured out my dumb mistake and corrected, it worked like a charm as it always has. I have been using some of your products for many years and they are excellent for what they are designed to do. Thanks for your response.

I recently made changes to our menu bar and tried uploading it, but looks like after I did the upload the menubar is still the same before the changes.

Can you help?

Dear Starr,

Is it possible that you forgot to delete your browser’s cache files? (a.k.a. “Temporary Internet Files”)

Please do this now and refresh the page to see if the menu changes.

If it does not, please double-check if you uploaded the correct file online.

Hello,

I deleted the temporary files, but the menu is still the same.

Do it maybe have something to do with the compiling of the menu?

menu compile

The other day it made me make changes/verify, but I'm not sure I did it correctly. I thought I did but I guess not..

Starr

Hi,

I figured it out. I upload the wrong "menu.js".

Thank you!
