Hello Vegard ,

This probably happens because you are using a VERY old menu which has compatibility issues with newer browsers.

I strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest AllWebMenus version as your current version has known issues with IE9&10 as well as Safari browsers.

I prefer to use Firefox but some visitors use IE. I just noticed that my menus are MUCH TOO WIDE in IE but they are fine in Firefox, Safari, Opera. I tried recompiling the menus but no luck. Before pulling my hair out, I thought I would ask you what the problem might be. Any thoughts?

Hello,

I checked your page and saw the problem. I created a local test-page from your own page, and noticed that the problem is only visible when you do not have a valid DOCTYPE in your page.

When you do not have a valid DOCTYPE in your page, then IE automatically falls into “quirks mode”, which is essentially IE5.5 Compatibility Mode. Adding a proper DOCTYPE in your page will fix this issue (and others you may see in IE).

However, the menu should be able to work even in quirks mode. Can you please export and send me the menu project so that we can further investigate this?

Do you know of a compatibility issue with AllWebmenus and Internet Explorer 10.  I can’t get my menus to show on IE10 on Windows 8 64bit machines (desktop  and metor version of IE) without forcing IE10 to view in compatibility mode.

Page not forced into compatibility mode for your testing purposes:

All other pages at {URL REMOVED} html forces IE into compatibility mode until we can resolve this issue.

If you believe the problem has been resolved in a newer release of AllWebmenus Pro and I need to purchase an upgrade that won’t be a problem but I don’t want to purchase now if the problem still exist in the latest version.

Thanks

Hello,

This is to confirm that the latest version of AllWebMenus fully supports IE10. We tried out your menu with IE10 without the IE9 compatibility code and it worked without problems.

Initial Email Subject: Problem with menu running IE9
Support Case Month: October 2012

Hi

When running my webpage on IE9 the menu items look strange, i.e. when the menu item consist of more words my menu is showing each word as a new line and not, just as I want it, a single line.

When running Firefox or Chrome the menu items show up in the right way.

Thank you for your help on this matter.

Best regards

Finn

Dear Finn,

After having another look at your menu & page I realized that the problem is in the page.

It seems that your page does not have a proper DOCTYPE and this causes IE to go into the so called “quirks mode” which is essentially IE5.5 Compatibility Mode.

Please try replacing this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">

<html>

With the correct HTML4 Transitional DOCTYPE:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

Or with the HTML5 DOCTYPE which is much simpler:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>

Kostas

There is a compatibility problem with Internet Explorer Version 10. I have version 10.0.9200.16384 and I am using Windows 8 64bit version.

This is how I see the menu in IE 10:

The menu has become crunched. Please examine my site in an older or different browser.

Please fix this issue and advise me.

Thank you,
