Hello Kostas,

How do I exactly use a menu dynamically, I mean populating it from database driven data? Also dynamically it can manage unlimited items/subitems or is there any restriction?

Many thanks for your very good support!

Paolo

Hello Paolo,

You need to use the "Server-Side Menus API":

http://www.likno.com/addins/dhtml-menu-serverside.html

Read the Help PDF (link there) for how to use it.

Please note that it is for advanced users and no implementation support can be given for free (because it requires programming focus, etc.)

We have no restriction on the number of items, unless the browser has problems with too many items.

Kostas

Hello,

First of all, I tried to view your page but I get a “page not found” error:

page not found error

Regarding your support question, I am not sure what the problem is. When you compile the menu, does the local “awmdata” folder have the compiled files in it?

If the local files exist, then your problem is in the uploading.

Gooday Kostas.
Not sure why the page is not coming up as it seems to work for me!
There is data in the local and uploaded awmdata folder for but nothing in the local or uploaded menu folder (sub folder in awmdata.)
I have attached the awmdata folder.
Thanks for your help.

Dear Pete,

Are you sure you used the link you sent to me? Is it possible that you have to be logged in to some online control panel in order for this to work?

The “menu” folder within “awmdata” folder, will only hold images if there are any images used by your menu. If your menu does not use images, then it is natural for this folder to be empty.

PS: the email you sent me just now, has “petresymonds” instead of “petesymonds” so it bounced back. I am now sending it again using your original email address.

Hi Kostas.

Thank you for spotting my mistake re my email addy!

I'm quite sure the link I sent is correct. To make sure I have copied and pasted the URL below, this was copied from a page that is up and running in Internet Explorer 8, it also works ok in Firefox (which is my default browser.)

http://www.pete-symonds.me.uk/buildingsurveyors/index.htm

I realize the menu is much too large for the page so changed it to 2 rows in your software which was then saved in Allwebmenus. I used Position Menu in Dreamweaver saved the page also in Dreamweaver and uploaded all of the required files to my host server. If I preview from Dreamweaver everything shows ok.

I have used your software many times and never had this problem before!

Dear Pete,

The original link was wrong indeed... you had sent:

http://www.pete-symonds.me.uk/buildingsurveying.biz/index.htm

while the correct URL you sent now is:

http://www.pete-symonds.me.uk/buildingsurveyors/index.htm

Also, your email is still coming wrong (with the extra "r") and I have to change it by hand when I reply. I do not know if you can correct this somehow in your email application.

Anyway, now I was able to see the page and the menu, which is indeed too wide. What is the problem though? Did you upload the new files? If so, did you upload them in the correct location?

From what I see your library files are up to date, so you only need to upload the "menu.js" really. And you should upload it to:

http://www.pete-symonds.me.uk/buildingsurveyors/menu.js

Hi Kostas.

How stupid feel now! If you hadn't have pointed it out I may not of noticed! The URL is indeed xxxx/buildingsurveyING. I first started on this site in January, the client has only just decided to go ahead with the website. I must have named the local directory wrong in the first place!

Thank you for your invaluable help, you've saved my sanity!!

Support Case Month: August 2012

I have been using All Web Menus 5 Pro for a number of years. I publish my web site using Front Page 2003. I only use All Web for one web site. All of my other web sites work OK, i am just having a problem with the Novaca web site.

I was experimenting with positioning the menu and now all of the pages in the web site, in FrontPage are blank. The pages in all other web sites are OK. Is it possible that I did something in AllWebMenus to effect the pages in FrontPage?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

This is very weird! What do you mean by “blank”? That they do not show in the preview, or that the actual files are empty somehow?

Can you send me one of the files that got affected to have a look? Are you sure that this was caused by AllWebMenus? If so, can you tell what was the last thing you did with it?

The more info we have, the better the chances to replicate the problem and find what is causing it.

Kostas

The files are only blank when I try to view them in FrontPage. I only see the top shared border.
If I enter data onto the page, it looks good, I save it. When I reopen it to view it, the data is gone.

If I try to enter data onto the bottom shared border, it looks good, I save it and when I reopen it, it is completely blank.

If you go to the web site www.novaca.com, the index page is gone, you only see the top and bottom shared borders. If you click on “product list – by model number” at the top of the page, the pages load OK, but those same pages are blank when I try to open them in FrontPage. The AllWebMenus menu is gone on all the pages.

I don’t know if it was caused by AllWebMenus. I was trying the different ways to position the drop down menu and I compiled each time I made a change and published to the server using FrontPage, to see what change it made. I couldn’t get it to do what I wanted, so I tried to use my original settings for the menu positioning and nothing worked.

Larry

Dear Larry,

Well, you say that you open a page, you write some data, save it and when you re-open it the data is gone. In this whole process you did not touch AllWebMenus, so it is most likely that whatever the problem is, it is not relevant to AllWebMenus. To further confirm this, you can try uninstalling your FrontPage AllWebMenus plugin to see if the problem remains.

Another test you can take would be to try creating a new test-site and see if the same problem appears there. Make sure that you save the test-site somewhere under “My Documents”, to ensure that you have the required access rights.

Please let me know of your findings.  Although this is probably not related to AllWebMenus, it is still a very weird problem and I am willing to help you find out what’s causing it (if I can).

Thanks for your help.

Something was corrupted in the Front Page files on my computer. I ended up deleting the web off my CPU and copying an old back-up version. Everything works OK now, I just had to go through all the work of down loading the web site to the host servers and re-up dating the web site.
What I was trying to do, was to center all the pages on my web site. I centered the top and bottom borders. I then centered the data on each page. All worked OK except the Linkno’s menu. I was trying to change the menu positioning automatically, when I got into trouble.I have the menu attached to the top border, but when I centered the top border, the menu did not follow.

Initial Email Subject: Please advise as fast as possible (database problem)
Support Case Month: December 2012

I downloaded the new version and I purchased it's license

My problem is in dynamic MYSQL menu from database

In your website in the link

http://www.likno.com/addins/dhtml-menu-serverside-example.html

this example is for submenus only but I need it to be from the first level to be from database , in the example the dynamic part starts from S4 under products

I need the level I2 and  all its lower submenu to be dynamic..

I tried to make it many times but it did not get any data… please send for me an example or steps to solve this issue

Please take a look in the green part in this print screen

main menu items - dynamic content

Please advise as fast as possible

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear John,

If you want to add more items to the main menu, then just use the main menu variable (“M0” in your screenshot).

So for example, this will add an item into the “Products” submenu:

S4.newItem('style=sub_item_style;text0=Helmets');

and this will add an item into the main menu:

M0.newItem('style=main_item_style;text0=New Main Menu Item');

I hope this helps. If you need more detailed help, I will need to know exactly what you would want your menu to show, how your DB is structured and which programming language you will be using.
