The menu I am working on is actually on the inside pages of the above website.

I am attempting to have a basic horizontal menu with dropdowns.  On the right end of the menu, I want to just have a few icons (facebook, mail, home).  I am attempting to make the size of those buttons, smaller (closer together).  Right now my little icons are spaced at least 112px apart, even though I have set their custom size to at least 30px.

Can the buttons be different sizes within a menu bar?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

When you have a menu set to act as a menubar then all the items will be widened to fit the whole width.

If you want the menu items to keep their width please do the following setting:

"Do not widen items" in  this way it will keep covering the whole width with the background of the menu and will not widen the menu items.

do not widen items in menubar

Thank you!

Initial Email Subject: want to trigger a dropdown menu by mousing over an image
Support Case Month: February 2013

Hello:

Site is {URL REMOVED}

I hope the attachment demonstrates what I want to accomplish.

When hovering or clicking a column header or the image directly below it, we want the drop part of the menu to appear.

We want to add to the function of the menu to get the dropdown when either the column head or the image is moused over or clicked.

I can send the existing menu file, if needed.

Thanks for considering my question.

Regards,
Joe

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Joe,

I believe the best way to achieve this would be to actually have the image as part of the menu item. You can do this easily if you set the menu item as HTML and add your image normally.

menu item as HTML

Then you need to fix the submenu position here:

I'm sure you can tell me how to fix this:

In all browsers except Google Chrome, the dropdown is displaying correctly.  In Chrome, it's behind the Flash.  What do I need to do to fix that?

Thanks so much.

Hello,

To make submenus appear *in front* of Flash Objects, Java Applets or Select Boxes, open the "Z-Index" property and click the "Click here" link:

main menu z-index property

This will open a help topic where you get instructions on what to do in your page.

If you still have a problem after following these instructions, please send me the URL to see what you have done.

The value is currently set to 1000 and works in all other browsers.  Does it need to be higher than that?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

I believe there is a misunderstanding. My point was that you need to click the “Click here” link, in order to read the instructions.

This issue is caused by the flash object and you will need to add specific code in your page in order to fix this (it cannot be resolved from the application alone).

Please look at the website menu in Safari and IE. When I click on the dropdown for Artists, it's working in Safari, but in IE it doesn't drop all of the way. It stops at what could be considered blocks.  How do I correct this?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

I checked your page and noticed that you have a “simple viewer” control, which is actually a flash control.

In order to have your menus (or anything else really) float over a flash applet, you have to pass a specific parameter to the flash object. This is the “wmode=transparent” parameter.

The problem is that this flash control is generated by a script, so I am not sure on how you can pass extra parameters. You should contact the developers of “simple viewer” and ask them if (and how) this is possible.

Initial Email Subject: Drop Down Menu Presentation
Support Case Month: September 2012

Hi...
You have helped me setting up this navigation and all seemed to fine in test mode.  I have taken the site live tonight and there is a slight glitch.
The First dropdown menu on the left (homepage is the Who We Are link) is supposed to be open as soon as you arrive on the page.  However it appears that you have to click on the menu header to get it to show. Then it does stay open like it should ... except if I bring my curser above it near the top of the page???
Can you help me with this? The other two dropdowns seem to be performing well.
Thanks so much!
Margie

Dear Margie,

I see two distinct problems:

1) The menu will automatically open and highlight the submenu that corresponds to the link URL. The link for the first item is “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/Default.htm” and it indeed opens the first submenu. The URL “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/” however does not exist in any of the menu links, hence no submenu opens.

The only way to fix this would be to setup an automatic redirect on your server from “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/” to “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/Default.htm” so that the URL in the address bar always corresponds to the menu item.

2) Another problem I noticed is that this page is huge. The problem in this case is that it sometimes takes too long to open, and your table cells start off in different positions. Check out two screenshots I was able to take:

This is only visible the first time someone visits your page, or if one deliberately clears all the cache files and performs continuous page refreshes. Still, this can cause the submenu to stay open in the wrong position.

I am not sure if there is anything that can be done regarding this issue. Maybe it would be fixed if you used “mountain_top_new5.jpg” for the Positioning. In this case you should attach the top-left side of the menu to the bottom-left side of the image:

Hi ..
Thanks for the quick reply.
The servers this client uses does not have index.htm as the home page.
They use Default.htm     I have never seen this, Have you?

Question:  If I change the link to just Default.htm, do you think that the drop down will open?
Thanks,
m

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

This will not change anything. The problem is that you have two different URLs on your browser’s address bar.

The only solution is to create a server-redirect. Do you know if this is an “Apache” server (most common)? If it is, then you need to do this in the “.htaccess” server file.

I understand that you may not be familiar with server settings, so maybe you need to ask the hosting guys to sort this out for you.

What you want as an end result, is that when a user types “www.cosgrovecomputer.com” on the address bar (or goes to that URL through a link or any other way), he should be re-directed to “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/Default.htm”.

Hi .
One more question on this.  Sorry for the delay!!
Would I have the same problem if it was an index.htm file??
Thanks :-)
margie

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Yes, it would make no difference. The problem is that your link shows “www.mysite.com/mypage” while the browser URL shows “www.mysite.com”. Hence it does not highlight the menu item.

Dear Margie,

I just thought of another solution. You can add some code into the homepage to explicitly specify which menu item will be highlighted.

This can work in conjunction with the automatic highlight for all the other pages.

To do this, you need to go to the homepage (and *only* the homepage), and add the following code *before* the Linking Code:

<script type="text/javascript">var awmShowItem=["menu2,9 "];</script>

Note: after checking your menu today, I noticed that you customized the “Who We Are” item so that its “mouseover” style is the same as its “normal” style. Why was this? This way you will never see it highlighted! (is this why you did it?)

Just being cautious where I place the code. Is this right?
  <!-- ******** BEGIN ALLWEBMENUS CODE FOR menu2 ******** -->

<script type="text/javascript">var awmShowItem=["menu2,9 "];</script>

<script type="text/javascript">var MenuLinkedBy="AllWebMenus [4]",awmMenuName="menu2",awmBN="884";</script><script charset="UTF-8" src="menu2.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript">awmBuildMenu();</script>

Yes this looks just fine!

I noticed in the code that you have an extra space:

var awmShowItem=["menu2,9 "]

Can you please remove this? Also, I noticed that you still do not have a mouse-over bold for the “Who we are” item (while all others do have it). Hence, even if the highlight works you will not see the item in bold.

Hi ...
Still going back and forth with the hosting guys ...
Got a final fix and now they can't get me into the control panel.
Have you ever heard of them .. planetsmb.net ???
Anyway.. .don't know if there is still a way to make your code work.

Hope you got my message that all was bolded. It looked like a highlight was occuring because I was changing the color of each link from a gray to a black.  That was how their old site was.
Let me know if you have any further input.
Thanks again for all your help.  It is most appreciated!

Dear Margie,

It seems I missed a detail in my instructions. Instead of:

var awmShowItem=["menu2,9"]

please try using:

var awmShowItem=["menu2,it9"]

I just tested this locally and it seems to work fine (finally!).

Hi..

Well..... simultaneously to updating your code the web hosting people went in and did the forwarding.  I still do not have access to the control panel they worked with so cannot undo.
Question ...  should I still keep your new code on the page?
It all seems to working fine in IE and firefox.  Pops right in at the top. Slow to load in Chrome.  Sometimes the menu pops in at the top and sometimes it crawls up from below. Refresh fixes it right up.

Dear Margie,

The code will not do anything bad or slow down the page. It can only do good or nothing at all.

I guess you should keep it just in case, or even as a reference in case you need to do this again for another page in the future.
