Hi,

Sorry it’s me again, not sure if I’m just pushing this program to it’s limits but I thought it would make a great youtube playlist.

So why does this work http://www.anbpartners.com/index_lwsc_sample.php and this not http://www.anbpartners.com/index_01.php

Regards Colin

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello Colin,

Check the 2 screenshots:

positioning element exists in page

positioning element does not exist in page

In this page http://www.anbpartners.com/index_01.php the scroller is not displayed as it cannot find
the element
<div id="youtube_playlist"></div>
You have set the scroller to be positioned relative to the above element.
That's why on the sample page it works, as it finds this element.
Please, correct this and check it again.
Let me know if you need any more help.
Thank you!

Hi Guys,

Sorry I apologise I’ve found out what is happening here my editor doesn’t like

<div id="youtube_playlist"></div> and deletes it,

if I use <div id="yout"></div> it works fine.

My editor doesn’t like open close div without anything in between, I can do it if I put the div in a table see below

<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">

    <tr>

        <td width="1135">

                <div id="yout"></div>

        </td>

    </tr>

</table>

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello Colin,

Still, you could use a div as you wanted. Just add &nbsp; in between so it does not translate it as empty.

So it should look like this:

<div id="yout">&nbsp;</div>

Thank you!

Initial Email Subject: Menu display problem
Support Case Month: April 2012

Dear Kostas,

I am so so glad you are still there.

I built a new menu about a month or so ago.......when I compiled it and so on......it did not show up on my site. So I started trying to figure it out myself.  First it appeared I needed to renew and update likno....which I did. But that didn't fix the problem. I went into my index page and hand coded the new menu number and so on.  It looks like it worked on my home page.......but no where else.......:-(    Also, I did see my old menu on some pages....but if I refreshed that page.........the menu disappeared and still does.........No telling what I've messed up. The url to my site is  www.freespiritemporium.com And it looks like the new menu shows up on the home page........but no where else.

Now I feel real stupid because I can't even remember how to check to see what version of IE I am using. I know I kept being prompted to download  IE9......and I probably did...........?

Thank you a million times,

Linda

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Linda,

Keep the spirit up! Smile

The problem was caused because you renamed the menu. When you do this, you also need to re-Link the compiled menu  to all your pages and upload them too.

If you do not remember how to do this, please let me know.

Dear Kostas,

I will try one more time.  What about the fact that I download the newest version of awm.  It has a different build number.

Every time I upload and download.......the pages don't change....... except for the homepage that I did manually.

Have I missed a step my friend?

2 million thanks

Dear Linda,

Using a new AllWebMenus version should not change anything. Just compile your menu, then link to your pages and upload everything.

Initial Email Subject: Drop Down Menu Presentation
Support Case Month: September 2012

Hi...
You have helped me setting up this navigation and all seemed to fine in test mode.  I have taken the site live tonight and there is a slight glitch.
The First dropdown menu on the left (homepage is the Who We Are link) is supposed to be open as soon as you arrive on the page.  However it appears that you have to click on the menu header to get it to show. Then it does stay open like it should ... except if I bring my curser above it near the top of the page???
Can you help me with this? The other two dropdowns seem to be performing well.
Thanks so much!
Margie

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Margie,

I see two distinct problems:

1) The menu will automatically open and highlight the submenu that corresponds to the link URL. The link for the first item is “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/Default.htm” and it indeed opens the first submenu. The URL “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/” however does not exist in any of the menu links, hence no submenu opens.

The only way to fix this would be to setup an automatic redirect on your server from “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/” to “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/Default.htm” so that the URL in the address bar always corresponds to the menu item.

2) Another problem I noticed is that this page is huge. The problem in this case is that it sometimes takes too long to open, and your table cells start off in different positions. Check out two screenshots I was able to take:

This is only visible the first time someone visits your page, or if one deliberately clears all the cache files and performs continuous page refreshes. Still, this can cause the submenu to stay open in the wrong position.

I am not sure if there is anything that can be done regarding this issue. Maybe it would be fixed if you used “mountain_top_new5.jpg” for the Positioning. In this case you should attach the top-left side of the menu to the bottom-left side of the image:

Hi ..
Thanks for the quick reply.
The servers this client uses does not have index.htm as the home page.
They use Default.htm     I have never seen this, Have you?

Question:  If I change the link to just Default.htm, do you think that the drop down will open?
Thanks,
m

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

This will not change anything. The problem is that you have two different URLs on your browser’s address bar.

The only solution is to create a server-redirect. Do you know if this is an “Apache” server (most common)? If it is, then you need to do this in the “.htaccess” server file.

I understand that you may not be familiar with server settings, so maybe you need to ask the hosting guys to sort this out for you.

What you want as an end result, is that when a user types “www.cosgrovecomputer.com” on the address bar (or goes to that URL through a link or any other way), he should be re-directed to “http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com/Default.htm”.

Hi .
One more question on this.  Sorry for the delay!!
Would I have the same problem if it was an index.htm file??
Thanks :-)

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Yes, it would make no difference. The problem is that your link shows “www.mysite.com/mypage” while the browser URL shows “www.mysite.com”. Hence it does not highlight the menu item.

Dear Margie,

I just thought of another solution. You can add some code into the homepage to explicitly specify which menu item will be highlighted.

This can work in conjunction with the automatic highlight for all the other pages.

To do this, you need to go to the homepage (and *only* the homepage), and add the following code *before* the Linking Code:

<script type="text/javascript">var awmShowItem=["menu2,9 "];</script>

Note: after checking your menu today, I noticed that you customized the “Who We Are” item so that its “mouseover” style is the same as its “normal” style. Why was this? This way you will never see it highlighted! (is this why you did it?)

I noticed in the code that you have an extra space:

var awmShowItem=["menu2,9 "]

Can you please remove this? Also, I noticed that you still do not have a mouse-over bold for the “Who we are” item (while all others do have it). Hence, even if the highlight works you will not see the item in bold.

Hi ...
Still going back and forth with the hosting guys ...
Got a final fix and now they can't get me into the control panel.
Have you ever heard of them .. planetsmb.net ???
Anyway.. .don't know if there is still a way to make your code work.

Hope you got my message that all was bolded. It looked like a highlight was occuring because I was changing the color of each link from a gray to a black.  That was how their old site was.
Let me know if you have any further input.
Thanks again for all your help.  It is most appreciated!

Dear Margie,

It seems I missed a detail in my instructions. Instead of:

var awmShowItem=["menu2,9"]

please try using:

var awmShowItem=["menu2,it9"]

I just tested this locally and it seems to work fine (finally!).

Hi..

Well..... simultaneously to updating your code the web hosting people went in and did the forwarding.  I still do not have access to the control panel they worked with so cannot undo.
Question ...  should I still keep your new code on the page?
It all seems to working fine in IE and firefox.  Pops right in at the top. Slow to load in Chrome.  Sometimes the menu pops in at the top and sometimes it crawls up from below. Refresh fixes it right up.
🙂 margie

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Margie,

The code will not do anything bad or slow down the page. It can only do good or nothing at all.

I guess you should keep it just in case, or even as a reference in case you need to do this again for another page in the future.

I’ve been trying that, but it’s not quite fitting with the way my Flash has been coded in. Where would I place it? The code is brief for the flash and follows:

<td width="730" height=100 valign=top><embed src="/flash/entry13.swf" quality=high bgcolor=#FFFFFF  width=730 height=232 salign=L type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"></embed></td></tr><tr>

Where would I fit the code referred to in the link? I believe it’s ('wmode','Transparent') supposed to be in 3 places in the example.

Thanks much.

Cary

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Cary,

If you use the full flash code, then there are three distinct places where you can put “wmode”.

However you seem to use a much shorter version that only has the <embed> part. Hence, following the help example, you should add:

wmode="transparent"

wmode=transparent

So please correct the “ 'wmode', 'Transparent' ” that you added and instead use the correct code.

Initial Email From:
Margie
Initial Email Subject: Drop Down Menu Presentation
Support Case Month: September 2012

Hi ...
Have created a horizontal menu of three items, each with drop down selections.  The homepage of the site will be the url I submitted above and also the first selection on the first dropdown menu (left).  Have set it up so that upon arrival at the "home" page the first drop down will appear. THEN if one moves on to any item in the 2nd or 3rd drop down "those" menus will appear and remain showing while a visitor is on a page in that specific dropdown.
PROBLEM:  Once a person moves on to a selection in the 2nd or 3rd dropdown the sequence is:  (1) the new dropdown appears as desires (2) option is clicked and there is a "quick" return/showing of the 1st dropdown menu before one arrives at their page in the 2nd or 3rd dropdown.
Really hope this makes sense!???    Basically I am getting a flash of the the 1st dropdown after going to and clicking on an item in the 2nd or 3rd column,   Right now I only have the TOP pages on each dropdown loaded. Hope that is enough for you to test.  Just renewed my support fee.
Thanks so much,
margie

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

I tested your page but I was not able to see what you describe.

What I see is that once you click on a link (e.g. “Project Profiles -> Software Engineering & Development”) the new page loads and it automatically opens the first submenu again.

It just opens after the new page is loaded; I did not see any “flashing”. Is this what you mean? Does the first submenu stay open in your case too? If you see something different, can you please tell me which browser you are using?

Hi .. .
I am using chrome BUT I  do not want the first menu to appear "everytime."
The ideal scenario would be:
- upon arriving at the site the first menu would be open without clicking on anything.
That vertical space would be full with the first dropdown showing.
- If the visitor clicks on a link in the first dropdown, the 1st dropdown continues to show.
- If the visitor clicks on a link in the 2nd dropdown, the 2nd dropdown shows and the
1st dropdown goes away.  The 2nd dropdown will continue to show while the visitor is on a link within the 2nd dropdown.
- If the visitor moves on to the 3rd dropdown, now the 2nd dropdown goes away ( the 1st dropdown should be gone as well) an the 3rd dropdown continues to show while the visitor is in the 3rd dropdown.
- The default ( for lack of a better word) dropdown showing if there is no "activity" on the site is the 1st dropdown.
The "original" site I am replacing functions as seen in this link.   http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com
Would like the same functionality, ONLY,  I want the headers to remain visible. The headers in this
link go away .. not good.  Only confuses the visitor.
Thanks for your help.

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Margie,

Why don’t you use the existing “auto-highlight” function of AllWebMenus which will open the correct submenu and also highlight the “current” item?

This is much closer to your existing menu, but it will also allow viewing the other submenus and the main menu item will stay visible. I believe that this is the best (and also the simplest) solution for you.

So the first dropdown would "always" be open?
AND when someone clicks in dropdown 2 or 3 that dropdown would also show?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

No. Only the dropdown corresponding to the “current page” will be open (as it is in your old site).

However when you mouse-over the second main menu item the first submenu will close and the second will open (in your old site now you cannot see the other submenus until you actually select the respective main menu item and change the page).

Also, the main menu items will always be visible (currently the selected main item is not very visible in your old site).

Exactly. And even if it is not (or for pages that do not exist in the menu), you can add a simply code in that page to specify explicitly which menu item will be highlighted.
