I have one question would the Google crawlers be able to crawl through all my links on menu? Here is my site with menu {URL REMOVED}

Thanks

Luke

Hello Luke,

The standard AllWebMenus menu has all its content within the JavaScript files, so search engines that are not able to access JS files will not see it.

There are two tricks you can do to increase your SEO:

First you can create a “sitemap” page (AllWebMenus will generate it automatically for you). If you link this page to your index page (even as a link not noticeable to the human eye) the search engine crawlers will follow it and discover all the menu links. To do this, have a look under “Tools->Create Sitemaps”.

You can also create a Sitemap for Google. Go to Tools-> Create Sitemaps -> Create Google Sitemap.

Second, you can turn your menu into a UL/LI menu. This means that you will have to insert the menu content into every single page (the same way you would do with a CSS menu). This of course adds more maintenance, but the menu links are visible in all pages. If you choose this option, we recommend that you use an include file so that you only have to edit the menu content in a single place if you want to change something in the menu in the future.

You can find more details about both methods in the project properties:

menu SEO properties

Let me know if you need more information.

Thank you!

Hello Shane,

First, thank you for your interest in our products.

In order for the AllWebMenus menu to be inserted in any hosted website, the user should be able to do the following in the hosting environment:

The AllWebMenus menu can be inserted in any hosted website, as long as the user is able to do the following in the hosting environment:

1. Upload javascript files online at the hosted website, either in a subfolder called "awmdata" OR in the ROOT if subfolders are not possible OR in any special subfolder dedicated for javascripts by the host (we need to know the arrangement so that we give proper instructions to the user).

2. Similarly, upload image files online at the hosted website, either in a subfolder called "awmdata/menu" OR in the ROOT if subfolders are not possible OR in any special subfolder dedicated for images by the host (we need to know the arrangement so that we give proper instructions to the user).

3. Add some lines of javascript code inside each page (or the template) that will be online (the hosted pages should permit this with some method).

Most such services do allow these simple actions.

I assume I am able to hide a menu item or menu group via external javascript function so I can display just the items/groups based on the web page.  Can you send me an example of how to do that?
Thank you.
Mike

First, thank you for your interest in our Likno products.

I believe that the Server-Side Menus API is what you are looking for:

I don't have a need at the moment to build the menu dynamically.  I want to build a complete static menu but then hide parts of it depending on the page the user is on.  My hope is that there is a javascript call to hide an item or group by ID?

Hello Mike,

Another way to achieve what you want is to use the "UL/LI" population method (see below). In that case, you can hide/show any UL/LI items (menu submenus and items in other words) you wish. I believe this is the way to go:

UL LI menu structure code

Hi Folks,

I am building a silo structured website and would *love* to use your Allwebmenus Pro but I need to hide the menus from Google and make their bot follow my link structure.

As the experts, can you advise,
1. Can/does Google read the js files?
2. What about putting the javascript files in a directory and disallowing it in robots.txt?
3. Is it worth putting the menus in an I-Frame?

Note: I am specifically worried about Google and assume you are up-to-date with the latest thinking.

Your advice ahead of a purchase would be much appreciated.

Regards,
James

Hello James,

First, thank you for your interest in our Likno products.

As far as we know, Google cannot find the links contained inside our menu.js file, because this file does not have straight <a> tags, or even "onclick" methods. It merely has the URL as a string parameter which later the awmlib1.js (or awmlib2.js) reads and creates the link.

See for example one such "item" inside the menu.js file:

it=s1.addItemWithImages(7,8,8,"AllWebMenus Examples",n,n,"",n,n,n,3,3,3,n,n,n,"",n,n,n,"examples.html?source=side",n,0,0,2,10,11,11,12,13,13,1,1,1,0,0,n,n,n,0,0,0,4,n);

For this reason, we created the "UL/LI" population option in AllWebMenus so that users that do need SEO and Google crawling the pages can use it.

So, we believe that if you use AllWebMenus with the standard population method Google will not crawl the links within (which are actually parameters).

Don’t put the menus in an i-frame, it has no difference in terms of Google crawl.

Also read this:

http://moz.com/ugc/can-google-really-access-content-in-javascript-really

So I believe you are safe with the external menu.js file of ours (which does not even have the links in coding format but only as parameters).

Aris

Support Case Month: June 2013

Hi,

I would like to find out more about your Web Tab Builders. I was wondering whether it can cross-over with my existing software of XSitepro for the web build-up. Do I get any technical support for it?

Hope to get your revert soon.

Thanks and regards,
Au

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello Au,

You can find a lot of information about Likno Web Tabs Builder in this page: http://www.likno.com/jquery-tabs/index.php

You have 3 choices of populating your web tabs (inside the project, through DIVs or through UL/LI elements). You could use DIVs or UL/LI structure to populate the tabs inside your XSitepro pages and add a JavaScript script in the pages you want the tabs to appear. As long as you can do those 2 steps then you can have the web tabs in your XSitepro pages.

Thank you.

Hi everybody,
Thanks for the explanation. However, I still have doubt because I can't find much example and support from the website. Hence, I'm not so expert in HTML and CSS but I need these builder to boost up my XSitepro as it is very useful.
If I have at least 20 pages which need this tab builder, does this mean I have to upload it 20 times?
Kindly advice
Thanks and regards,
Au

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello Au,

You can have as many pages as you want, the only steps you need to follow are:

Step1 : Use Likno Web Tabs Builder to create and stylize your web tabs. Choose the population method and the positioning method.

Step 2: Insert to the pages you have the linking code, the population code and positioning code.

Step 3: Upload the 2 folders of your project in your server.

Note: If you use a template then you only need to insert the linking code, population code and positioning code in your template once and not in every page.

You don't need to be an expert in HTML or CSS in order to do that, as the application creates any code you need.

Please see the manual for more help http://www.likno.com/downldd/Likno_Web_Tabs_Builder_Manual.pdf or see the Help in the application and let me know if you need more explanations.

Aggelos
