Hello!

We’re hoping to use Google Translate to make our website available in multiple languages. Although Translate isn’t perfect, it does a decent job. However, we’re having an issue with our menu that we built with AllWebMenus Pro (v5.3) as shown in the pictures below.  Is there a way to fix this (text overlap, fixed width of sub-menus)?

Hello,

Can you please send us the URL to have a check and see what technique you are using for the translated text to show on the menu?

Kind Regards,

Is there a way to set a fixed width for each menu item so that translated text ends up on 2 lines whenever necessary?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

You can set a fixed width for each menu item:

In case you want all the items to have at least a width value you can go to Style Editor -> Main Items Style (or Subitems/Subitems+) -> Size -> Minimum Width and set the value.

minimum width of menu item

In case you want each menu item to have different minimum width then you can go to Menu Editor -> Select the menu item you want -> All Values -> Size and set the minimum width value.

custom minimum width of a menu item

After you have made all your changes, you need to re-compile the menu project and re-upload the produced files to your server.

Please, let me know if I can be of further help.

Thank you.

My web site is made up of tables 960 pixels wide.

Can I set my menu width to 960 pixels regardless of how many buttons there are.

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

In order to achieve your desired result you need to set the main menu group minimum width to 960px. See the Screenshot attached.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thank you!

Thank you for your excellent support.
I had always assumed that the minimum length applied to just 1 button.

Hi,

I have a responsive menu and I want the vertical slider menu to fill the width of the screen. Can this be done? Rather than set a minimum width etc.

thanks,
Martin

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello Martin,

If you use a sliding menu then it cannot detect the width automatically, so you need to specify the width (if you need specific) or leave it to grab the width it needs according to the menu items.

A good way to set the width is by setting the minimum width for each of your responsive versions.

We have recently added a new theme (which is responsive). Take a look on this so you will see how we have done it. http://www.likno.com/examples/responsive-menu-above-green-line-resize-page.html

Let me know if you need more information.

Thank you.

I need to know how to configure the menu to only be as wide as the table the menu is laying on top of.

Thanks,

Dear Ron,

I am afraid that it is not possible to automatically make the menu take the width of a given page element.

One thing you can do, is to give the menu a “minimum width” and make sure that your menu items are not so big that they make the menu wider.

main menu minimum width

If the menu is wider than what you wanted, try reducing the padding or font size.

Hello,

I just checked your site, but did not find any Likno code.

In either case, when you want to reduce a menu size, there are specific things you can do:

- Reduce the font size (or images if you use them instead of text):

reduce the menu font size

- Reduce the item padding & text margin:

reduce item padding and text margin

- Make sure your menu items are not “uniform” (as they would then all take the width of the widest item):

menu items not uniform

Hello,

What do you mean by “plain1”? is this a theme you are using?

Would it be possible to create an online test-page so that I can see the actual problem?

Hello,

It seems you had a couple of errors in your project that caused this problem:

1) You had custom styles for your main menu items, when you wanted all items to have the same style. I have now remove ALL custom values and properly updated the Style Editor. In the future, when you want to change a style for all main menu items, please change the “Main Item Style” in the Style Editor:

main menu item style

Accordingly you should change “Sub Items Style” for the first-level submenu items and “Sub Items Style+” for the deeper submenus.

2) You had the Link value in the “click state” text value! I assume that you wanted to put this in the Link Field instead:

menu link value

After correcting the above issues, all you have to do to set the menu (minimum) width is to change the related option in the Style Editor:

menu style minimum width

Please use the attached project from now on, as it already has the above corrections. You may change the “Minimum Width” value as you like.

Kostas
