Knowledge Base support case for AllWebMenus, abstracted and stripped of all user’s private info.

Initial Email From:
Akash
Initial Email Subject: help/question for keyboard access to menus
Support Case Month: August 2012

Hello Support Team,

We are using AllWebMenu Pro 5.3 to create our application’s menus and have one question about it

We want the menus to be accessible with mouse AS WELL AS keyboard

Are there any keyboard shortcuts to access the menu with keyboard or a way we can provide in the menus generated with allwebmenus

So the user can use keyboard to access and use menus as well as submenu with keyboard

Our application uses frames and the menus are in the top frame

Thank you,

Akash

Dear Akash,

The keyboard shortcut to cycle through the page menus is “Ctrl+F12”. The navigation is performed with the arrow keys.

It is possible that the focus will have to be in the top frame in order for this to work. If this does not work, please send me the URL so that I can test it myself.

Kostas

Hello Kostas,

We tried “ctrl+F12”  but did not worked

This is the link and login details for you, so you can test it.

Dear Akash,

I tried viewing your menu, but the system you have does not let me…

Specifically, when I try to view only the frame that holds the menu it seems that I get redirected to some other page which is broken.

Also when I try to guess the menu path (using the source code info) I always get a “page not found”, for all the URLs I tried:

{URL REMOVED}

Where is the menu actually uploaded?

What I mostly wanted to check is the version of the menu you are using. If it is old it may not support keyboard navigation at all, as this is a relatively recent feature.

Hello Kostas,

Thank you for the quick response

Below is the link to get the menu ‘s java script

{URL REMOVED}

as I remember we deployed these menus using version 5.3

I don’t think you will be able to just load the top frame separately, the whole page has to be viewed with frames

Do let me know if you need any more information to help with this

Thanks

Akash

Indeed, the version you have does not support Keyboard Navigation. You are using build 870 and this feature was added in build 880.

According to your license you can get up to build 892 for free, so I suggest that you do this and recompile your menus.

(you can get this from your User Area account)

Reply From: Akash

Hello Kostas,

We downloaded and installed build 892

And compiled menu in new version (menu_worker.js)

But still we are not able to use the keyboard shortcut

we did make sure the focus was on that frame the menu is in and  tried to use with

both the shortcut keys “ctrl+F12” as you said and as well shift “shift+F12” as in help file and menu options

but it did not work

we have updated that menu on the link we provided earlier

We will appreciate if we can figure this issue out

Thank you for your support

Akash

Dear Akash,

I am afraid I have bad news.

I discussed this issue with our main developer and he told me that the keyboard navigation was never supported for cross-frame environments due to JavaScript security restrictions.

Sorry about this!

Initial Email Subject: Tool tip works in IE9, but not Firefox 12.0 or Chrome
Support Case Month: June 2012

Tool tip is on code line 153.
Hovering over the image causes the tip to show only in IE.
Works fine on IE9, but will not work with Firefox 12.0 or Chrome...on THIS page.  Tested on another page of the same site and it DID work with Chrome (did not test with IE or FireFox.

Hello,
I checked your site and noticed that you have a tooltip project attached with three tooltips, but I only found a reference for one of them (Tooltip_1) in your page.
In my tests, this tooltip did not show up in any browser! I was not able to find the cause of this problem by looking at your compiled files. Can you please export and send me the Tooltip Project so that I can have a look?

Hi Kostas,  That's really weird it won't work for you, but works for me on some browsers.
Attached is my file.
Tool tip #1 (NEW! image - code line 153 on http://www.photocutouts.com/index.htm works on some browsers
Tool tip #2 (PayPal logo - code line 131) on http://www.photocutouts.com/acrylic-cutouts.htm was a test and I don't recall if I expect it to work at this time but it did work at one point - don't recall which browsers.
Tool tip #3 (Red Order Help Button - code line 166) works fine on http://www.photocutouts.com/acrylic-cutouts.htm
Thanks for your help!
Al

Dear Al,
I was able to find the problem. It seems that you have set your tooltips to appear relative to a specific page element (NOT the trigger element) and that this element does not exist in your page:
tooltip relative to element
Please return this again to either “its Trigger Element” or “the Mouse” in order to fix the problem.

Dear Al,
Are you sure? I just tested your page (acrylic-cutouts.htm) and I see the tooltip in the red button working for all browsers!
Did you make sure that you deleted your browser’s cache files? Maybe you are still viewing the old files.

Hi Kostas,
I downloaded and installed the latest modal and tool tip updates
I opened tool tips and compiled the project
I uploaded the likno-scripts folder
I cleared all history from Chrome, Firefox, and IE9
Tool tip #1 works only in IE9
Tool tip #3 has always worked without fail in all 3 browsers
Attached is the latest export.
Thanks!

Dear Al,
Did you recompile your Modal project too? I specifically asked you to download both because they could be interfering with each other.
If not, please try this now and let me know.

After compiling the modal project everything started working.  However, I am now trying to add a tool tip to http://www.photocutouts.com/acrylic-popouts.htm (The red order help button)
but it will not open for me.  I have probably done something wrong, but I sure can't find it.  It fails in Chrome and IE9, didn't try in Firefox.
Attached is the latest export file.
Thanks!

Dear Al,

I checked your page, and it seems that you forgot to add the Linking Code!

Please link the tooltip project to the page and see if this corrects the problem.

Hello, we have released a new version of AllWebMenus Pro: Version 5.3 build #900.

Check out What's New

- Multiple .AWM projects can now be simultaneously loaded within a single instance of the AllWebMenus application. Copy & Paste actions can now be performed among the multiple loaded projects.

- Enhanced the Expression Web 4 Add-in.

Knowledge Base support case for AllWebMenus, abstracted and stripped of all user’s private info.

Initial Email From:
Henry
Initial Email Subject:  Request for help
Support Case Month: April 2012

Dear Staff,
I am using AllWebMenus PRO v 5 on Windows XP  that I just activated today.
I am trying to implement a Javascript action based on clicking a web menu field on the "piano web menu example"   I added  an "audio tag" to the HTML format for my "Mouse click" event in the Javascript piano web menu example.
The piano will display as shown here (http://kyemba.net/saylor), but my audio files will not sound.
I have tried testing the audio file using a standalone media player and the files play fine.
However, the files also will not play when substituted in the following w3schools.com ( http://www.w3schools.com/html5/tag_audio.asp )
editor as follows:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<body>
<audio controls="controls">
  <type="audio/mp3" source src="
http://kyemba.net/saylor/audio/02%20-%20Priere" />
</audio>
</body>
</html>

Would you give me some advice on what I may be doing incorrectly.  Or perhaps an alternative means to go about adding audio to a "clickable" event on the menu.
Sincerely,
Henry

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Henry,

The purpose of the <audio> tag is to display a player within the browser which you can use to listen to the specific sound file you put in the “src”.

It does not just load a sound in the background, and to the best of my knowledge it is not possible to control this sound using JavaScript (e.g. have it play when you click somewhere).

If you want to have a sound play when you mouse-over or click on the menu items, I am afraid that this is not going to be easy. First and foremost, because sound is not supported by all browsers, so this would only work in half of them. Secondly because this would probably require a flash control for playing sounds which will be called/controlled by JavaScript commands. As you can understand, this would require custom coding on your side, and there is no “standard” that we can propose.

Adding sounds to the menu is something that our users have asked for years, but unfortunately this is still not possible given the current browser (lack of) support (it is only possible in Flash menus which is entirely out of our scope).

Kostas
