Hi
The problem of links not highlighting, only occurs when the modal window
covers the trigger button, so is dependent on screen resolution as well.

Hello Graham,

You may want to add Hover CSS for your img with id="Image1"

CSS properties

You could add in your CSS file

#Image1:hover { Cursor:pointer; }

This way, no matter what, when you mouse over this image you will have the pointer cursor.

In Chrome though it works for me.

Initial Email Subject: Crosshair pointer showing menu set for hand
Support Case Month: August 2012

Hello

I'm using two menus, menubrown.js for the "brown" themed page and menublue.js for the "blue" themed page.

On both menus, the Home page link has a crosshair pointer, the menu has been set for a hand.  If you hover over all links you will see what I mean.  How do I fix this problem?

Also please can you tell me how to fix a hyperlink problem.  On the "brown" themed page the menu AIRBRUSHING points to http://www.powerscourt-cockers.co.uk/addictive/airbrushing.html, however despite the "blue" themed page having the same hyperlink set it is actually taking you to the "brown" themed home page rather than the airbrushing page!  It's not meant to be like this, the hyperlink is still http://www.powerscourt-cockers.co.uk/addictive/airbrushing.html

Thanks, Chris

Hello Chris,

Both are really strange and I believe that you have a "customized" value in the project for the "Mouse" on the "Home" item. Also, are you sure that the 2nd project has the same link there?

Please export and send me your 2 project files, so that we can have a better look at the problem.

This is what you should do to export your project into a ZIP file and then email this ZIP to us.

export menu project

Hi Aris

Thanks for your email.  Both zip files are attached.

Yes, the blue themed page hyperlink for “Airbrushing” is set in the menu for http://www.powerscourt-cockers.co.uk/addictive/airbrushing.html but when the link opens the page it’s opening http://www.powerscourt-cockers.co.uk/addictive/index.html instead.

Could it be that you forgot to re-compile BOTH menus after you made changes?

Because the PREVIEW in AllWebMenus shows them as they should, I do not understand. They work fine there…!

Hi Aris

I did recompile both menus after I’d made changes.

However, in the screen shot below it says “site_root\menu.js”.  Do you think this is the cause of the problem?  My menu for the brown theme is called “menubrown.js” so the names don’t match.  If I do the same in the blue theme it also says “site_root\menu.js”

menu compiled successfully

Yes, this must be the problem, you need to change the compiled names to the proper ones (the ones that you use when you linked the menu to the web pages):

compiled menu name

This is where you will do this.

Also, how did this happen? How did you link with a different name but then the compiled name was the default one? I am curious to see why this happened in order to prevent it in the future.

Hi Aris

The menus are compiled to their respective .js names now, I don’t know why the default menu.js popped up but I altered the location to the custom one in the properties folders and it’s working now.  I’ve recompiled and the issue with the crosshair has been resolved.  Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I have been using AllWebMenus since version 3, and have recently updated another years updates. I also thought it would be good to try the sliding menus add-on, even though $80 is a great deal of money when converted to South African Rand. Unfortunately I'm a little disappointed, and, wish I'd rather tried the web scroller builder or modal builder.

The problem is, it just jumps, and leaves the person confused and having to back-track. I'll explain: I've left my early menu on the testbed page (above). If you mouse over 'supplier pages', 5 suppliers scroll down - so far very nice. Scrolling onto the first of these, 'Faulhaber', 2 choices scroll down; still okay. Scrolling off the bottom of these to the next supplier, 'Rose & Krieger', the 'Faulhaber' sub menu closes and the mouse loses position and stays on the 4th supplier, leaving the watcher blinking what happened, and then having to scroll back up to 'Rose & Krieger'.  Not really the effect you want when trying to impress a client, and I won't use it as it is.

I can supply the .awm file in case you think I have missed a tag or setting.  What I think should happen, or maybe you can add an option to do this, is have the mouse pointer jump back an equivalent distance when the sub-menu closes (in the above example, the pointer stays on the 'Rose & Kreiger' supplier after the sub-menu has closed.

In the meantime, I have gone back to a standard opening menu (above site, not in the testbed directory.

Peter

Dear Peter,

We understand what you say about the sliding menu and how this can be a problem. Still this is only a problem when you set the submenus to open on mouse-over. This is the reason why you almost never see sliding menus out there opening on mouse-over (to be frank, initially we thought of not even offering this option). I am afraid that it is not possible to move the mouse pointer as this would be considered a security breach and even if it was possible it would probably be even more confusing for the user.

My suggestion is that you set your submenus to open on click in order to avoid all these issues. You may also want to add a sliding effect to make the transition from one submenu to the next even smoother. You can have a look at our online sliding-menu example to get an idea of how this would work:
