Knowledge Base support case for AllWebMenus, abstracted and stripped of all user’s private info.

Support Case Month: January 2013

I own AllwebMenus PRO 5.3 build 900.

I checked all the help, and I haven't found an explanation on how to call an in-page javascript function from an AllwebMenus menu item, using the "Javascript Command" feature attached to the item's onclick event.  The javascript function I want to call actually resides in the <head> section of my web page like this:

<head>

<!-- header stuff  -->

<script type="text/javascript">

function changeContentInfo(newText)
{
   document.getElementById('DisplayDate').innerText=newText;
}
</script>

</head>

I can call this function from anywhere in my web page - a button click or focus event etc.  But if I try to call it from the "Javascript Command" entry of an AllwebMenus menu item onclick event, nothing happens.

The "Javascript Command" is entered as: changeContentInfo("Monday");

I sure hope it's possible to call a javascript function that resides on the web page, so I can re-use the call from the AllwebMenus "Javascript Command" feature. I don't want to repeatedly write the same full function details into each "Javascript Command" where I would need it.

I'm experimenting with that neat 'calendar' AWM project, and I was checking that my page could respond to clicking on any day in the calendar.  That would mean that I would call my function 31 times for the 31 days in March.  So far, no luck.

The page I'm working on isn't on my website yet, because it doesn't work.

Thanks,
Bob

Dear Bob,

If your page already has the function, then calling it from AllWebMenus should work directly and without problems:

run javascript command

If this does not work, then I will need you to upload your example on a test-page so that I can check it.

Hi,

I have used allwebmenus for some time (I see my update expired in May). However, I have recently purchased a Mac, and would like to continue to use your menu for my dreamweaver site.  Can you tell me what my best option is?

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately the installation file is available only for Windows.

However, our MAC customers use third-party software for emulation, without any problems reported so far.

Here are all your options to run Windows applications on an Intel-powered Mac:

Thanks

I don't want to have to buy another program just to run a menu though.

The VirtualBox application is a free open-source application that does the work just fine.

You can get it here:

Initial Email Subject: Issue in iframe
Support Case Month: June 2012

Dear Customer Service:
I'm doing some test to use iframe in the webpage and some issue happened. The example is as follow:
There is an iframe named "iframe1" in main page PageA.htm and 2 buttons in the menu. When click button1, shows PageB in iframe1 and click button2, shows Page E in iframe1.
PageB contains another iframe named "iframe2" and another menu in PageB with button3 and button4. When click button3, shows PageC in iframe2 and click button4, shows PageD in iframe2.
When running PageB individually, everything works fine, but when I run Page A, it showed PageB in iframe1, but there is no response when I click button3 and button4. Please help me to solve the problem.
Sample files are in attachment, please kindly check.

Many thanks!

Shen

Dear Shen,

The problem is caused by the fact that this is an iframe within another iframe (and not a direct child of the main page).

The way to resolve this, is to add the full iframe path to the target, which in this case is “iframe1.iframe2”:

(Note of course that if you do this, then it will work for page A, but will not work when you are directly viewing page B as then the path “iframe1.iframe2” will be incorrect…)

Initial Email Subject: JavaScript code execution
Support Case Month: September 2012

The home page of this web site contains four buttons in the upper right hand corner of the page. The top two buttons execute some external JavaScript code that I have pasted in below. The other two buttons are just links. Is there something I can do in AllWebMenus, which I already have, to replace these buttons? Or do I need to get your Button Maker software?

The code is below

var user = "{INFO REMOVED}"; //for example - "{INFO REMOVED}"
var domain = "{INFO REMOVED}"; //for example - "{INFO REMOVED}"
var subject = "Info from Fanick's Garden Center "; //for example = "website feedback"
var bodytext = "Enter your message here"; //for example - "dear Joe, here are my comments"
document.write('<a href="
mailto:' + user + '@' + domain + '?subject=' + subject + '&body=' + bodytext + '">');
document.write('<img id="imgemail" src="images/emailFlat.jpg" alt="Email Fanicks Garden Center for info" ></a>');

if ((navigator.appName == "Microsoft Internet Explorer") && (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4)) {
var url_EX=location.href;
var title_EX=document.title;
document.write('<A HREF="javascript:window.ext');
document.write('ernal.AddFavorite(url_EX,title_EX);" ');
document.write('onMouseOver=" window.status=');
document.write("'Add Fanicks Garden Center to your favorites!'; return true ");
document.write('"onMouseOut=" window.status=');
document.write("' '; return true ");
document.write('"><img id="imgfavs" alt="CLICK here to add Fanicks Garden Center to your favorites" src="images/favoritesFlat.jpg" ></a>');
}

Hello,

First of all, it seems that only Internet Explorer has four buttons, while all other browsers have three:

menu buttons

The email button would be really easy to replicate in AllWebMenus. Just create the button with the design you want and add the following as a link:

mailto:{EMAIL REMOVED}?subject=Info from Fanick's Garden Center&body=Enter your message here

email link menu item

The “favorite” button is not something that can work cross-browser reliably and I guess this is why you only show it in Internet Explorer.

To replicate the functionality in AllWebMenus you need to add the following code to the “Javascript command” field of your item:

window.external.AddFavorite(location.href,document.title);

JavaScript Command field

Hi, I wish to purchase your modal windows and tool tip tool, can they be added to Netobjects Fusion 12 as components. Please reply soonest…

Tim

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Tim,

Well, if Netobjects Fusion 12 allows you to insert code directly into your page and also to upload the compiled files to your server, then there is no reason why this would not work.

I suggest that you download the trial and try it out.

Note however that your modal/tooltips will not show online with the trial. You can either view the pages locally, or if you want to see them online, then you need to use the server IP instead of domain name in the page URL in the browser address bar.

In any case, let me know if you run into any problems, and also send me the URL so that I can check it myself.
