Hi, I have been trying to find your articles on how to dynamically change the link of the page to load into a window as the HTML page loads. At present I am using the following link

<a href='#' target='Modal_Window_1'>
   <img src='images/QMarkSmall.png' width='15' height='15' border='0' />
</a>

How do I pass a page url to the html page to be loaded into the window in this case?
Could you direct me to the solution.
Thanks,
Glenn

Dear Glenn,

If you want to create a link that will load the Modal Window with a specific URL, then you just need to add the proper href like this:

<a href='mypage.html' target='Modal_Window_1'> test </a>

If you want this to automatically open on page load and the URL to be defined by JavaScript (e.g. different each time), then you need something like this:

<script>

    var my_url="mypage.html";

    function open_modal() {

        if (typeof Modal_Window_1 == "undefined") setTimeout(open_modal, 200);

        else Modal_Window_1({bodySource:"<div externalUrl='"+my_url+"'/>"});

</script>

For more information on how you can use the JavaScript API to pass more parameters (e.g. size etc.) please have a look here:

Hi Kostas,
I tried your recommendations both of the following:

<a href='help01.html' target='Modal_Window_1'>
    <img src='images/QMarkSmall.png' width='15' height='15' border='0' />
</a>
<a href='../help01.html' target='Modal_Window_1'>
    <img src='images/QMarkSmall.png' width='15' height='15' border='0' />
</a>

The help files are in the root directory of the site and also I placed a copy in the likno-scripts folder.

<a href='http://psychcam.tv/help01.html' target='Modal_Window_1'>
    <img src='images/QMarkSmall.png' width='15' height='15' border='0' />
</a>

I have selected 'External' as the source and left the link field blank in your app.

Neither of these links loaded the html page when the window opens.

Thanks,

Glenn

Dear Glenn,

Please try setting your project to “page links”:

set modal window page links

Then use the following code in your page:

<a href='/help01.html' target='Modal_Window_1_single'>
    <img src='images/QMarkSmall.png' width='15' height='15' border='0' />
</a>

(note the “_single” at the end of your modal name)

Hi Kostas,
Thanks for the information.
check out psychcam.tv and click on a product in the left hand column.
The ? images should open the window.
I followed the instructions below, uploaded the likno folder and the index page which I relinked to the project, but now the windows aren't opening, just open the page in a new window.
There must be something else I don't have set properly.
Thanks,
Glenn

Dear Glenn,

This is because you are loading the links with Ajax, after the library has been loaded.

Modal Windows does support links loaded with Ajax, but this feature was added in the latest version (build 250 – August 13).

Please download the latest build and recompile your project to fix this problem.

Hi Kostas,
I've created a modal window in which I'm displaying the login portion of another web page. My intent is that the user would login via the modal window and when the Enter (submit) button is clicked, the user should be validated, the modal window closed, and the page that results from the users login should display in the parent window. But, the page that results from the users login is displaying in the modal window. I'm also having trouble getting the modal window to close consistently when the user clicks to close it (or hits ESC).
I've tried using the code both inside and external to the modal project. Right now it is external.
I appreciate whatever direction you can provide.
Best regards,
Diane

Dear Diane,

Regarding the form not loading in the main window, all you need to do is to add “target=’_top’” in your form:

<form name="loginform" id="loginform" method="post" target="_top" onsubmit="return submitForm(this.submit1)" action>

You also say that the modal does not close consistently. I assume you refer only to the ESC key, which will indeed not work while the focus is in the form (which is within an iframe). I am afraid that there is not much we can do about this though.

If you see the closing problem anywhere else (or any other issues at all), please let me know.

Kostas

Hi Kostas,
Thanks so much for your quick reply. Unfortunately, the form is a core component of the Learning Management System we're logging into, and is an .asp page that I don't have access to. Can you suggest any other way?
My thanks,
Diane

Dear Diane,

How about the landing page? Is this also part of the system?

If you can edit the landing page, you can add a JS check that will “break out of frames” and always load in the top window.

If this is also not possible, then you may try loading the form as “Ajax” instead of “External”. This should also work, as long as the login form does not have scripts.

Kostas

Knowledge Base support case for Likno Web Tabs Builder, abstracted and stripped of all user’s private info.

I'm testing Tabs Builder to see if to purchase or not.  The one feature I'm interested in which I haven't been able to get to work with other tools doesn't appear to work in Tabs Builder either.

Is there something special I need to do to get the Height of the tabs to work with "auto" selected?  It appears its fixed at about 300 pixels.  I can set to fixed and changed pixels and that works.  Its just Auto that doesn't.

My test consists of copying the sample code as my main page and in the project tabs folder the Body Source is set to "External".  I think enter a html document in the page link.  The page resides in same directory as main page.  The page displays except the height of the tab doesn't expand automatically.

Also to test, I didn't dump files to web site, just compiled all in directory and used a browser to open the main file.  Not sure if this matters or not???

using FF 14.0.1

Hello,

When the “source” type is set to “external” then you are actually showing a separate page into an iframe. It is not possible to automatically calculate the size of an external page, hence when you are using “external” and your size is set to “auto”, it is automatically translated to the default size (which is 300px). This is true for all our builders when it comes to “external” content.

If your external page does not contain any code (e.g. if it is plain HMTL and images), then you can try calling it as “Ajax”. This way it is possible to have “auto” size.

Support Case Month: October 2012

Hello there,

Tried to find a solution in the knowledge base but really couldn't find a way to help.

Got a simple php var that I'd like to send using Ajax rules to the content Modal page, how the heck do I do this ?

a simple url would be <a href="url.php?var=$var">

Has to be easy but searching a way for hours, I'd rather let you guys tell me how 🙂

Thanks in advance
Jack

Dear Jack,

You need to use the “page links” modal method:

modal window target value

This will open the href of your selected links within a modal window. Then in your page you can add links like this:

<a href="url.php?var=<?php echo $var; ?>" target="Modal_Window_1_single">

There is also a JavaScript API alternative if you prefer, but I believe this is the easiest way to do it.
