Knowledge Base support case for AllWebMenus,  abstracted and stripped of all user’s private info.

Initial Email Subject: Issue with AllWebMenus and WordPress
Support Case Month: May 2013

Hi, there.  I'm having an issue with AllWebMenus and WordPress of which I cannot figure out.

I have a working menu built in AllWebMenus and I've linked it to my WordPress site.

For the AWM plugin settings in WordPress I've set my Menu Type to "Dynamic" and I've created a Menu in the WP dashboard and assigned that menu in the AWM plugin settings.

I've pasted the Menu Structure Code generated by the plugin into desktop application.

Basically everything is working fine, in that I see my menu, my menu is truly dynamic, and I can add menu items in WordPress and they appear as expected.

My issue has to do with the background images I'm using for my menu items.

All of my menu items have the same background image, except for three of them.

In the desktop app in the style editor I've given my menu items Main Items Style this background image:  "tab.png".

And that works.

main menu item background image

But for the three items that I want to have a different background image, I've selected "custom values" on the Menu Editor side, and assigned a background image of "tab-arrow.png" to those three buttons, like this:

menu item specific background image

In the app Menu Preview the graphic looks correct, in that for those three buttons it shows the alternate background image.

However when I compile my menu, go back to WordPress and import it, my buttons that have a different background image assigned to them never show the alternate background image.  They will only show the background image assigned to the Main Items Style group.

Here is how it should look (notice that Articles, Products & Programs, and Services have a different graphic with an arrow):

clip_image001

And this is how it compiles and imports into WordPress (graphic does not appear.:

clip_image001[5]

Anyway, I hope that makes sense.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Randy

Dear Randy,

I am afraid that customizations are not supported when you are using a dynamic WordPress menu. As you already found out, any customizations that you use will simply be ignored online. This is because the menu cannot be certain that the item you see locally will indeed exist online.

Still, if I understand correctly, these are the only items that have a submenu, right? If so, then you can add your extra image as a “has submenu” image, which is a standard style option and will be applied to items that indeed have a submenu:

Hello:

I am trying to get more button height, I don’t want any white space between buttons.

When I set the size (height) to something over 29, it looks like the button RIGHT images is NOT changing (getting wider)?

Anything I am missing?

  Please Advise

menu item size

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

I am afraid that none of the images is automatically resized when you change the item size. The difference between these images is that the “Background Tile Image” is tiled, while the “
Background Image 1 & 2” are just centered. So behind the “left” image you actually see the Tile image:

image tile

This will be much clearer if you increase the height even more (say to 45px).

If you want to make the menu taller, I guess you should select a different theme that is taller, or you could change the images to enlarge them yourself in a graphic editor.

Support Case Month: July 2012

I am using Modal Windows.  I am trying to load a Background Image that uses a Gradient.  It is not appearing the proper way.  The prior background color is still showing even though it has been removed.  Is there any problem using a gradient in WebModal?

Thanks,
Bob

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Bob,

There should not be a problem with gradient background in a modal window. Does this not even work in the preview? Are you sure your CSS code is correct? (I am asking because the gradient background requires a pretty complex CSS which is different for each browser.)

Can you please send me your Modal project so that I can have a look?

The gradient is actually an image file, so I am just trying to set the background image.

Then the most likely problem is that the image is not in the correct place online. If you send me the URL of an example page I can test this for you.

Initial Email Subject: Individual colors for background of main item buttons
Support Case Month: October 2012

I need to customize individual buttons background colors for main items to match the colors in their logo. I can change the background  on all of the buttons but that will not work for the individual buttons. Any help greatly appreciated.

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Dave,

You can do this by adding customized style values to each item. First click on “All Values” to see the values that can be customized, then change what you want. (“Custom Values” will only show the customized values)

Dear Dave,

Having another look at your project file, I noticed that this is image-based. So it does not have a background color, but a background image instead:

In this case you have to change the Background Image Set:

menu background image settings

If you do not find something you like in the existing sets, you can also create your own images and change them individually (i.e. not as a set) there.

Just keep in mind that you have to use images that have the same height in order to prevent the menu from “breaking”.

You could also open the currently used images in a graphic editor and make a copy with different colors. (you will find them in the compiled folder)

Thanks for the info. I will work on that.

I was looking at your Button Maker and it looks like there are some template pieces that look like it would be the same format as the ones I am using. Might be able to use that also..

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Indeed, Button Maker has several templates that you could use as a background for your menu items.

The only thing you have to keep in mind is that (due to the nature of these buttons) the Button Maker images have a fixed width (which you set), so you do not use them as a “set” but as “Background Image 1” only, setting the “tile image” and “image 2” to “none”.
