Support Case Month: November 2012

Hi guys

hope all well

could you advice as to where would be the best place to upload small (less than 10mb) screen videos please per lesson unit/specific subject?

should we upload them into the main unit files folder for all access or somewhere else?

also is this a professor or admin permission to upload content such as this

best and thanks,
Mark

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello Mark,

Every lesson has its own files.

You can upload to the lessons files any type of file you want  and then use it in the lesson's units.

You can insert the files to any unit of the lesson.

Only the professor is able to upload content (including files) to the lessons and not the administrator.

Hi Aris,

Please can you supply me with the software requirements – Windows/Linux/MSSQL/MySQL etc? In fact can you ask the technical team to provide a full spec required to host your software.

Kind regards,
Olga

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello Olga,

Here is what I believe that you need:

Requirements

  • Hardware: There are no limits on the type of hardware used to host an LMS installation. However, as your needs grow, so will the need for additional resources. A simple LMS installation requires about 50M of free disk space and 32M of free system memory. However, a minimum of 128M free memory available to PHP is recommended. Disk space should be allocated according to usage
  • Software: LMS requires an environment running the following:
    • PHP version 5.1+ (PHP 5.2+ recommended)
    • Mysql Server 4+ (Mysql 5 is strongly recommended, and mandatory for LMS Enterprise installations)
    • Web server (Apache 2+ recommended, although LMS can work with Apache 1.x, IIS, nginx or lighttpd)
    • Write access from the web server to some folders inside the LMS installation (see Preparing LMS setup on Linux Server with Apache below)

LMS may be installed either on a Windows or on a Linux environment. However, if you are going to use non-latin language settings, linux is preferred over windows due to the latter's poor support for UTF-8 filenames

Support Case Month: July 2012

Good Morning,

I have some questions.

1) What is difference between a course and lessons? Can I assume lessons are incorporated within courses? Does the admin or professor create the course and does the professor create the lessons? Can a lesson stand alone?

2) What is the difference between courses, lessons, and modules?

3) In course/lesson loading what does the admin do and what does the professor do.

4) You say: Other files can be uploaded in a lesson through the Files function. Please note that text from a word file can be copied/pasted in eFront through the unit's editor.
Otherwise, word or ppt files can be uploaded in the lesson's file manager and added as links inside the unit's content, or they can be shared with the students directly.

I?m having issues with this. Is there someone I can speak to. I don?t see the share button and also can I place the files within a category?

Best Regards,

Ron

Hello Ron,

Here are the answers to the questions of yours:

1) What is difference between a course and lessons? Can I assume lessons are incorporated within courses? Does the admin or professor create the course and does the professor create the lessons? Can a lesson stand alone?

A course is consisted of many lessons. A lesson can either be available directly (standalone) or exclusively through a course.
Both administrators and professors can add new lessons and courses, but only the professors can upload content in the lessons.

http://docs.efrontlearning.net/Courses

2)  What is the difference between courses, lessons, and modules?

Same as above. To which modules do you refer? Modules can be installed in eFront to extend the core functionality.

3) In course/lesson loading what does the admin do and what does the professor do.

The admin can create the course/lesson titles, the professor is responsible for adding content.

Files may belong to a lesson only, they can not be associated with a category. You can see in the screenshot below the share button:

Thank you.

Initial Email Subject: Hosted Learning Solution
Support Case Month: July 2012

Good Morning,

I am recently employed with {COMPANY NAME REMOVED} and have been tasked with reviewing and selecting an LMS hosting solution to house custom developed training content and user documentation for both our clients and internal staff.

We have several basic requirements at present:

1. We are interested in a hosted solution.

2. We would need to brand the site as {COMPANY NAME REMOVED} powered by likno or something to that effect.

3. We develop training content and user /technical documentation in the form word documents, PDF’s, and Adobe Captivate developed elearning content.

4. We incorporate training assessments within our courseware. It would be great if these assessments can be tracked on a user basis.

5. We would need to set up client groups OR be able to direct  client users to a specific  catalog of courseware/documentation relevant to their specific needs.

6. I would like to have an opportunity to test a generic installation with a few of our staff to review features and capabilities for at least a couple of weeks before making any decisions.  Are you amenable to this type of arrangement?

As an introductory step, please respond to this email with a contact name, phone number, and email address.

Best Regards,

Ron

Hello Ron,

First, thank you for your interest in our Likno products.

Here is our answers to your requirements:

1. We are interested in a hosted solution.

We do proved a hosted solution, see here for pricing:

http://www.elearninglms.com/hosting.php

2. We would need to brand the site as {COMPANY NAME REMOVED} powered by likno or something to that effect.

This can be possible, it may require a small fee to do so but still possible.

3. We develop training content and user /technical documentation in the form word documents, PDF’s, and Adobe Captivate developed elearning content.

This content can be shown inside the LMS.

4. We incorporate training assessments within our courseware. It would be great if these assessments can be tracked on a user basis.

Yes, this is possible in the "Enterprise" Edition.

5. We would need to set up client groups OR be able to direct  client users to a specific  catalog of courseware/documentation relevant to their specific needs.

Yes, this is also supported by the "Enterprise" Edition.

6. I would like to have an opportunity to test a generic installation with a few of our staff to review features and capabilities for at least a couple of weeks before making any decisions.  Are you amenable to this type of arrangement?

Yes, we can arrange for this by providing you a hosted Enterprise account as a TEST for 2 weeks.

Thank you.

Initial Email From:
Christa
Initial Email Subject: Quote for Likno eLearning LMS installable license
Support Case Month: October 2012

I am interested in getting a quote for your LMS license.  We have 1300 users.  We are currently using a LMS, but it is not meeting our current needs.  I have looked at your website and many of the features you have on your LMS will fit our needs.

I have a couple questions as well:

1.  Can the LMS send notifications when classes are due or past due?

2.  Do you offer student archiving?  (For inactive users)

3.  Is it possible to have one log?  So users would only have to log in once for our site and the LMS.

4.  Do you have bookmarking tools?  So the learner can pick up where they left off?

5.  Do you offer historical data importing? What are the costs?

6.  Can we sell our courses through your LMS? (this is something we may want to do in the future)

7.  How often are upgrades typically?

Thank you,

Christa

Hello Christa,

First, thank you for your interest in our Likno products.

Here are the answers:

1.  Can the LMS send notifications when classes are due or past due?

Yes, you can set up notifications that will be sent before, after or on several events.

2.  Do you offer student archiving?  (For inactive users)

Yes, there is the Archive function.

3.  Is it possible to have one log?  So users would only have to log in once for our site and the LMS.

Yes it can be done with a single sign on customization (through API) , as a project.

4.  Do you have bookmarking tools?  So the learner can pick up where they left off?

The students can click on the resume button to pick up where they left off but there is also a
      bookmarking tool.

5.  Do you offer historical data importing? What are the costs?

It can be done but it requires a custom project, according to your data.

6.  Can we sell our courses through your LMS? (this is something we may want to do in the future)

Yes, our software is integrated with paypal, so you can sell your courses online.

7.  How often are upgrades typically?

Upgrades are issued on a bi-monthly basis typically.

Thank you.
