I'm sure you can tell me how to fix this:

In all browsers except Google Chrome, the dropdown is displaying correctly.  In Chrome, it's behind the Flash.  What do I need to do to fix that?

Thanks so much.

Anna

Hello,

To make submenus appear *in front* of Flash Objects, Java Applets or Select Boxes, open the "Z-Index" property and click the "Click here" link:

main menu z-index property

This will open a help topic where you get instructions on what to do in your page.

If you still have a problem after following these instructions, please send me the URL to see what you have done.

The value is currently set to 1000 and works in all other browsers.  Does it need to be higher than that?

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

I believe there is a misunderstanding. My point was that you need to click the “Click here” link, in order to read the instructions.

This issue is caused by the flash object and you will need to add specific code in your page in order to fix this (it cannot be resolved from the application alone).

Greetings,
I cant seem to find an answer to my question elsewhere, so, I am designing a website that is based on percentage and not pixels, it is set to be 76% of window size.  I am placing the menu at the top, within a table, centered. However, it will not stay within the table and hangs over the page on either side.
I had to insert some html so that the menu would appear over the flash movie, but this "hangover" is on every page, not just the one with the flash.
I know the menu would have to adjust itself along with the webpage according to browser specs, I also know the menu actually appears "above" the page, and is not part of the page. So, that said. I am at a loss as to what to do.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Michele

Dear Michele,

It seems that the menu works fine as long as the browser window is wide enough.

From this I gather that you have correctly set the “menubar” settings. However you also have significant paddings in your menu that do not allow it to become smaller than a given width.

Please check the following properties and change both the padding and margin to 0:

menu padding and text margin

Thank you for your quick reply. I changed the padding settings to 0 as you suggested and when I view the pages "live" within Adobe Dreamweaver everything looks perfect!  The menu is perfectly aligned on all pages.  But once they are uploaded to the server the pages do not appear the same. The menu sits above the table. I tried changing the vertical align to top, bottom, middle, but nothing changes. I have the valign set at default now. I uploaded all the awmdata files as well as the menu.js and the pages themselves, still once it is online, it will not line up. I am at a loss.
Thank you,
Michele

Dear Michele,

Is your menu still set as a menubar? Can you export and send me your menu project so that I can further research this?

Hello Kostas,
As requested, I have attached the zipped file.
I should tell you that this menu is from one of the pre-made templates. I have made many menus using this program, but never one this fancy. I had changed the base color, but went back to the original. It was never saved as a menubar.
I have another machine with a 15" screen. That one shows the menu sitting just above the table where it should be nested. In 17" everything is fine. My client wants a "flashy" navigation bar and I am not great at doing that from scratch so I thought this would be the answer.
Thanks for your assistance.
Michele

Hello,

I have made some minor changes to your menu to make it look better.

1) added a minimum width to the main menu group

2) removed the “distance between items” that created something like a border

3) added a normal border so that it is also visible before the first and after the last item.

To complete the changes, you can also change the following in your page, from:

To:

style="background-image: url(awmdata/menu/menuItem-tile.jpg);" bgcolor="#474747">

Thank you so much. I will try this.  Not so sure about the border before and after. It took me forever to figure out how to get rid of that. LOL   I will see if I can figure it out again. :-)
I'll let you know how I made out.
Thank you again and again.

Hello Kostas,
Oh dear! It is not perfect on my screen here at work. It looked good from home, but not here. It is "hanging" again. Just a tiny bit on each side, but enough to be noticeable. It's fine on the index page, but the others, not so much. All the pages are set at 75% so I don't know why it would be different on all but the index page. I changed the awm code to below, as you so graciously provided and it was great, until I had to add a link.

<td height="32" style="background-image: url(awmdata/menu/menuItem-tile.jpg);" bgcolor="#474747"><div align="center" id="awmAnchor-menu"></div></td>

Also, last night I tried to update my version of AllWebMenus PRO with latest version. But when I tried to download the program from your primary download location, I kept getting a message saying windows couldn't locate something or other. I was so tired at that point, I didn't attempt to try it again. I will try it again tonight and let you know what the error message is saying.
I bet you just wish I would go away! LOL

Are you referring to this?

menu in website

I had to zoom my browser in order to notice that the menu is a pixel or two off on the right side!

I guess this is because after you added the new item the menu became just a bit too big. Two things can help resolve this issue:

1) decrease the item padding (if there is any):

menu item padding

2) make sure that the “Uniform Items” property is NOT checked:

uncheck uniform items property

Hi,

We are having an issue with that as well. We have a flash image that now we are finding is covering the dropdown when you mouse over. What can I do to put the dropdown ON TOP OF the flash image? If it helps, the web address is http://www.conest.com/default_video_new_menu3.asp. Please let me know what the solution is asap. I need to get this page up to replace the homepage.

Thanks
Cary

P.S. Just wanted to mention that I already have the z-index set to 1000.

I’ve been trying that, but it’s not quite fitting with the way m Flash has been coded in. Where would I place it? The code is brief for the flash and follows:

<td width="730" height=100 valign=top><embed src="/flash/entry13.swf" quality=high bgcolor=#FFFFFF  width=730 height=232 salign=L type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"></embed></td></tr><tr>

Where would I fit the code referred to in the link? I believe it’s ('wmode','Transparent') supposed to be in 3 places in the example.

Thanks much.

Cary

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Cary,

If you use the full flash code, then there are three distinct places where you can put “wmode”.

However you seem to use a much shorter version that only has the <embed> part. Hence, following the help example, you should add:

wmode="transparent"

flash object wmode transparent

So please correct the “ 'wmode', 'Transparent' ” that you added and instead use the correct code.

Dear Kostas,

The form is Flash designed with Coffee Cup Web Form Builder. Incidentally, I am still finalizing my site so that I can upload it. You can only view after uploading. But I thought you could give me some hints about what could be the problem so that I can sort it out before I finally upload it.

Best regards,

Charles

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Charles,

The hint is the screenshot I gave you, but I was not sure that your form was flash. If you click on the “click here” link of the z-index property, you will read detailed information on how to fix this.

Specifically you will need to add the “wmode=transparent” parameter in a couple of places in your flash code. Please read this and let me know if you have more specific questions:

Hi Kostas,

Yes, I have added the "wmode=transparent" parameter only in files where the menu was displaying behind the web forms and the menu started displaying well. But I left out other files with web forms which didn't have the same problem because the forms were not located close to the menu. I wonder whether I have to do the same throughout to all the forms even where there is no problem. Please clarify me on that. Otherwise so far so good. Thanks a lot for your support and good cooperation.

Best regards,

Charles

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Charles,

Well, if there is no problem in the other pages, then you do not have to add this parameter. However, it will not do any harm if you do add it. So if you want your code to be consistent (for example to avoid possible copy-paste traps in the future) you can add the "transparent" parameter in all your flash codes.

Initial Email From:

Initial Email Subject: Modal Windows
Support Case Month: August 2012

Aris,

I have a new need that I think Likno can help me out with. I have a need for a Modal Windows Builder type function, but the window must be able to be called from within an Adobe Edge object. We are switching to Adobe Edge for HTML5 animation to replace our Flash animations which of course won’t display on an iPad or Mac. We have the need for modal pop-up windows within the Adobe Edge animation.

Do you think your product can handle it?

Please advise,
Bob

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Bob,

Adobe Edge produces HTML, so Modal Windows should work just fine with it. You of course need to add the Linking Code to your page, along with the triggering code for the Modal Window, exactly like you would do in any other page.

Let me know if you need specific help with something.
