Hi ...
Have created a horizontal menu of three items, each with drop down selections.  The homepage of the site will be the url I submitted above and also the first selection on the first dropdown menu (left).  Have set it up so that upon arrival at the "home" page the first drop down will appear. THEN if one moves on to any item in the 2nd or 3rd drop down "those" menus will appear and remain showing while a visitor is on a page in that specific dropdown.
PROBLEM:  Once a person moves on to a selection in the 2nd or 3rd dropdown the sequence is:  (1) the new dropdown appears as desires (2) option is clicked and there is a "quick" return/showing of the 1st dropdown menu before one arrives at their page in the 2nd or 3rd dropdown.
Really hope this makes sense!???    Basically I am getting a flash of the the 1st dropdown after going to and clicking on an item in the 2nd or 3rd column,   Right now I only have the TOP pages on each dropdown loaded. Hope that is enough for you to test.  Just renewed my support fee.
Thanks so much,
margie

I tested your page but I was not able to see what you describe.

What I see is that once you click on a link (e.g. “Project Profiles -> Software Engineering & Development”) the new page loads and it automatically opens the first submenu again.

It just opens after the new page is loaded; I did not see any “flashing”. Is this what you mean? Does the first submenu stay open in your case too? If you see something different, can you please tell me which browser you are using?

Hi .. .
I am using chrome BUT I  do not want the first menu to appear "everytime."
The ideal scenario would be:
- upon arriving at the site the first menu would be open without clicking on anything.
That vertical space would be full with the first dropdown showing.
- If the visitor clicks on a link in the first dropdown, the 1st dropdown continues to show.
- If the visitor clicks on a link in the 2nd dropdown, the 2nd dropdown shows and the
1st dropdown goes away.  The 2nd dropdown will continue to show while the visitor is on a link within the 2nd dropdown.
- If the visitor moves on to the 3rd dropdown, now the 2nd dropdown goes away ( the 1st dropdown should be gone as well) an the 3rd dropdown continues to show while the visitor is in the 3rd dropdown.
- The default ( for lack of a better word) dropdown showing if there is no "activity" on the site is the 1st dropdown.
The "original" site I am replacing functions as seen in this link.   http://www.cosgrovecomputer.com
Would like the same functionality, ONLY,  I want the headers to remain visible. The headers in this
link go away .. not good.  Only confuses the visitor.
Thanks for your help.

Dear Margie,

Why don’t you use the existing “auto-highlight” function of AllWebMenus which will open the correct submenu and also highlight the “current” item?

This is much closer to your existing menu, but it will also allow viewing the other submenus and the main menu item will stay visible. I believe that this is the best (and also the simplest) solution for you.

So the first dropdown would "always" be open?
AND when someone clicks in dropdown 2 or 3 that dropdown would also show?

No. Only the dropdown corresponding to the “current page” will be open (as it is in your old site).

However when you mouse-over the second main menu item the first submenu will close and the second will open (in your old site now you cannot see the other submenus until you actually select the respective main menu item and change the page).

Also, the main menu items will always be visible (currently the selected main item is not very visible in your old site).

Thats sounds good. One more quick confirmation.
The 1st drop down will be open upon going to the page?  And this is because the main url is the first link on the 1st dropdown?

Exactly. And even if it is not (or for pages that do not exist in the menu), you can add a simply code in that page to specify explicitly which menu item will be highlighted.

Hi ...
Well, it seems to work!   What do you think?  Have all the pages loaded now.
Thank you so much!

Seems to work fine!

Just note that the last link in the last submenu points to the old site.

Dear sir,

I have a small question which I thought I had found the solution for but seems not to work.

My client would like that his choice of menu stays highlighted until he clicks on another menu.  It is only a simple one level menu, something like 5 buttons on a row (horizontally).  Now when we hover above a button it alters from gray background to red, but once clicked it turns grey again instead of remaining red.  So the user can see his last chosen menu.  Is this possible for I tried something on group level but that did not seem to work.

Thanks,
Pascal

Dear Pascal,

What you need is to enable the automatic highlight feature, which keeps the “current” item on its clicked state by matching the browser URL with the item’s link.

Hi Kostas,

If you look at the link provided you will see I have enabled the menu item that is active to remain highlighted with the mouse-over button and this works well. However, if you look at page 2 and page 3 the menu item for that article is no longer highlighted. In Joomla this is one long article with page breaks. Is there any way to keep that menu item highlighted on pages 2 and 3 in Joomla 2.5?

Hello,

I am afraid that cases like this cannot work automatically as they really are different pages.

You can always highlight the required item manually. To do this however you need to add a specific code *before* the Linking Code and this may prove tricky in Joomla.
