Support Case Month: February 2013

Hello:

Site is {URL REMOVED}

I hope the attachment demonstrates what I want to accomplish.

When hovering or clicking a column header or the image directly below it, we want the drop part of the menu to appear.

We want to add to the function of the menu to get the dropdown when either the column head or the image is moused over or clicked.

I can send the existing menu file, if needed.

Thanks for considering my question.

Regards,
Joe

Dear Joe,

I believe the best way to achieve this would be to actually have the image as part of the menu item. You can do this easily if you set the menu item as HTML and add your image normally.

menu item as HTML

Then you need to fix the submenu position here:

Is there support within AllWebMenus 5 for iPads and iPhones using Safari when using dropdowns on mouse overs?
Should I be doing something special to support these devices?
Thanks
Dave

Dear Dave,

Safari 5 was first supported back in May 2011 (just before the official Safari 5 version was released). I checked your site and see that your menu is compiled with a recent version, so you should not have to do anything else. Your menus should work fine in Safari 5 in all platforms (PC, Mac, iPhones & iPads).

Do you see some problem? If so, please give us more specific information and if possible send us a screenshot. If you updated your menus only recently, please try deleting Safari’s “cache files” and refreshing the page, as it is likely that you are still seeing the old files (this is especially true for mobile devices).

Thanks for the reply.

The issue I currently have with the site is specific to Mac iOS devices (iPad & iPhone).

The sites menu features drop-down menu items which appear on a mouseover state. Obviously when using a touch screen device you don’t get the same mouse action.

Having checked your support knowledge base I’ve seen that we can now populate the menu through the 1st UL/LI structure found, so I’m going to give that a go.

I think on reflection the main issue my client encounters is that because I have a link on the top menu item, when they click/tap on this using their iPad, rather than seeing the dropdown menu options, they get take to the top level link instead!

Thanks again for the reply/support. Please feel free to close this ticket down as I think I’ve now got it covered… I guess I should have done some more reading in your knowledge base first.

thanks,
Dave

Dear David,

Actually, we have special code in our libraries so that when you are using a touch device the first click will open the submenu and the second will follow the link.

If this does not work for a specific device, then we should correct it! Does this happen in both iPads and iPhones?

I will forward this case to our developer team and let you know as soon as I have more news. If this is indeed a bug, I expect a fix to be release within next week.

Hi Kostas,

Yes indeed I experienced the issue on my iPhone 4s and my client originally spotted the issue on his wife’s iPad 1, then on his own iPad 2

Hope this helps.

For now on my site I’ve taken off the link to the top level item, so on a PC you naturally get the drop down on a mouse over, and on a touchscreen device you get it when you tap on the top level item.

I’d be interested in a ‘fix’ though.

All the best,
Dave

Dear David,

We did more tests regarding this issue, and we found both iPods and iPads to work properly. This is to say that the first touch would open the submenu and the second would follow the link.

If you believe that this does not work in your case, please create an online example that we can also check and let me know.

It doesn't just happen in IE. I found that if you click anywhere off the menu bar and then move your mouse over the "Other Services" button, it does not drop down.

Thanks,

Steve

Dear Steve,

The submenu does not show in IE (ever) because it is hidden behind the Flash applet. To correct this issue you need to add the “wmode=transparent” parameter to the Flash applet.

Specifically you need to change the following code in your page:

<script type="text/javascript">

         AC_FL_RunContent('codebase','http://download.macromedia.com/pub
         /shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0','width','970',
         'height','252','title','ProClean Carpet and Upholstery', 'src',
         'flash/main', 'quality','high','pluginspage',
         'http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?
         P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash','movie','flash/main' ); //end AC code

</script>

<noscript>
     <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
             codebase="
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave
             /cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0
" width="970"
             height="252" title="ProClean Carpet and Upholstery">

<param name="movie" value="flash/main.swf" />
             <param name="quality" value="high" />
             <embed src="flash/main.swf" quality="high"
             pluginspage="

"
             type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="970"
             height="252"></embed>
      </object>
</noscript>

With this:

<script type="text/javascript">

         AC_FL_RunContent('codebase','http://download.macromedia.com/pub
         /shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0','width','970',

         'flash/main', 'quality','high',
'wmode','transparent','pluginspage',
         'http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?
         P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash','movie','flash/main' ); //end AC code

</script>

             height="252" title="ProClean Carpet and Upholstery">
             <param name="movie" value="flash/main.swf" />

             type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
wmode="transparent"
             width="970" height="252"></embed>
      </object>
</noscript>

Kostas,

Awesome work dude!

I really appreciate it.

I had a sneaky suspicion that it might have something to do with the Flash.

We don't usually use Flash because it doesn't work on the iPhone or iPad.

Thank you,

Steve

Initial Email From:
Bob
Initial Email Subject: Capabilities
Support Case Month: May 2012

I have a few questions regarding capabilities.  We are currently using AWM but we do have many of your other products.

Here is what we would like to do.

I would like my "Main Group Style" to be activated by a rollover.  So I might have 5 headings, or items, but you would only see the top one.  Then when you rollover it, you would see the other items.  Then the Group directly under that, I believe it would be the "Sub Group", I would like to open by a click. So when you look at my menu, you would only see the Top Item, when you rollover it, you would see the other items, but they would only open or activate when they are clicked on.  I hope I have explained myself thoroughly.  I am not sure if this is possible, or if I need to use only one or the other action.  Any help would be greatly appreciated so that I can continue to develop my menu system.

I was also wondering if it would be possible to have a 2nd menu that loads on a page.  I would have my main menu that would work by it's click action and then also have another menu along the bottom of the page that would be a bar menu.  How would I handle that as far as the images go.  Would everything go into the main images folder?  How would I handle that?

I was also wondering if you have a forum that I may be able to use as another means of support.  I have many ideas and questions, some creative things I would like to share and sometimes technical questions that I am looking to run past someone.  I don't like the idea of having to bother your support team with every question/concern I have.  If you could direct me to what you feel might be the best place, if one exists, I would greatly appreciate it.

Bob

Regarding the menu you describe, this has actually three levels:

1) The main menu is a single item (the top one).

2) The first submenu is a sliding menu that opens on mouse-over and holds the rest of what you call “main menu items”.

3) The third level will open on mouse click.

This can be easily built, using only AllWebMenus Pro (with the Sliding Menu Add-in also purchased).

Regarding the second menu, I am not sure I understood how exactly you want this to work. Should this change whenever you click something in the top menu?

Finally, regarding the forum, we have found in the past that our users were not very active to write in the forum, so we ended up answering all the questions anyway. We currently do not have an open forum. We have a blog where we post a lot of support questions so that others can easily find the answer to any question, but we do not have a place where you can post questions (except this support email).

Kostas

Initial Email Subject: Crosshair pointer showing menu set for hand
Support Case Month: August 2012

Hello

I'm using two menus, menubrown.js for the "brown" themed page and menublue.js for the "blue" themed page.

On both menus, the Home page link has a crosshair pointer, the menu has been set for a hand.  If you hover over all links you will see what I mean.  How do I fix this problem?

Also please can you tell me how to fix a hyperlink problem.  On the "brown" themed page the menu AIRBRUSHING points to http://www.powerscourt-cockers.co.uk/addictive/airbrushing.html, however despite the "blue" themed page having the same hyperlink set it is actually taking you to the "brown" themed home page rather than the airbrushing page!  It's not meant to be like this, the hyperlink is still http://www.powerscourt-cockers.co.uk/addictive/airbrushing.html

Thanks, Chris

Hello Chris,

Both are really strange and I believe that you have a "customized" value in the project for the "Mouse" on the "Home" item. Also, are you sure that the 2nd project has the same link there?

Please export and send me your 2 project files, so that we can have a better look at the problem.

This is what you should do to export your project into a ZIP file and then email this ZIP to us.

Hi Aris

Thanks for your email.  Both zip files are attached.

Yes, the blue themed page hyperlink for “Airbrushing” is set in the menu for http://www.powerscourt-cockers.co.uk/addictive/airbrushing.html but when the link opens the page it’s opening http://www.powerscourt-cockers.co.uk/addictive/index.html instead.

Could it be that you forgot to re-compile BOTH menus after you made changes?

Because the PREVIEW in AllWebMenus shows them as they should, I do not understand. They work fine there…!

Hi Aris

I did recompile both menus after I’d made changes.

However, in the screen shot below it says “site_root\menu.js”.  Do you think this is the cause of the problem?  My menu for the brown theme is called “menubrown.js” so the names don’t match.  If I do the same in the blue theme it also says “site_root\menu.js”

menu compiled successfully

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Yes, this must be the problem, you need to change the compiled names to the proper ones (the ones that you use when you linked the menu to the web pages):

compiled menu name

This is where you will do this.

Also, how did this happen? How did you link with a different name but then the compiled name was the default one? I am curious to see why this happened in order to prevent it in the future.

Hi Aris

The menus are compiled to their respective .js names now, I don’t know why the default menu.js popped up but I altered the location to the custom one in the properties folders and it’s working now.  I’ve recompiled and the issue with the crosshair has been resolved.  Thanks for your help.
