If I use Mozilla it's ok. - If I use Google Chrome it's ok - but if I use Internet Explorer 9 it's not OK . no Windows appears.
You can test  www.seeshaupt.de

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Rudolf,

I did some further testing and it seems that the modal does not always appear when viewing the page in “quirks mode”.

IE will enter “quirks mode” (essentially IE5.5 compatibility mode) if your page does not have a valid DOCTYPE.

Please try changing this:

<html>

To this:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

This will allow IE9 to work in its normal mode, and it will also allow it to support CSS3 features (such as drop-shadows and rounded corners that are not supported in “quirks mode”).

Kostas

Hi Kostas,

may be a problem with the frame:

www.seeshaupt.de the index.htm is a frame with a link to start-page to  www.seeshaupt.de/Seeshaupt_Start1.htm.

If you call direct this page like www.seeshaupt.de/Seeshaupt_Start1.htm  the windows Modal worked fine

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello again,

So does this resolve your problem? Or do you need to keep the frame and still make it work?

If you need the frame, did you try adding proper DOCTYPE in both your pages? (the parent page and the inner framed page)

Kostas

Hi Kostas

A lot of thanks.

Now Windows Modal worked fine with IE9.

Solution: only in the frame (e.g Index.htm) is necessary to include the Doctype.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Initial Email Subject: AWM problems in other browsers
Support Case Month: July 2012

I have been using AWM for years and have used to create many websites. It's been a very valuable too. But lately it seems to be incompatible with different browsers. For example it may work in Mozilla Firefox but not work in I.E. explorer or Safari.

Current website effected are {URLs REMOVED} and more. These websites I maintain and have other javascript on them but the menus are driving me crazy. Do I have to upload all the files all time when I make a change to an html page yet I make no change to the menu? Even if I do do this, it still won't work in Safari. This is an ongoing major issue. Thanks in advance for your help. I'm rethinking using it on future projects if it is that incompatible with new versions of web browsers.

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

I checked your sites and it seems that they all use a very old version of AllWebMenus (from 2009), which indeed did not support IE9 and Safari 5 (both of these browsers were released at least two years after the AllWebMenus version you used, and they introduced incompatibilities that were resolved in newer versions).

I also checked your licenses and I see that you can get the latest AllWebMenus for free.

All you have to do to fix the problem is to recompile your menus with the latest AllWebMenus version and upload the new compiled files.

Regarding your other question, you only have to upload the menu files when you change the menu.

Note that AllWebMenus is not generally “incompatible with newer browsers”. It is these two specific browsers/versions that introduced new incompatibilities and we supported both of them with new AllWebMenus releases as soon as they were at “release candidate” state (before they were even officially released). We also issued a newsletter to notify our users about this, but I guess that you did not receive or read this.

Finally, please keep in mind that we constantly improve our products, so if you ever find some problem, chances are that we have already fixed it in a newer release.

Support Case Month: October 2012

Can you please advise why all of a sudden the menu is not visible in my Mozilla browser but it is visible in the IE browser. This is true for the site mentioned above and also for another site:
http://gregralphquarterhorses.com/

I have updated with the latest release version but it still doesn't fix the problem. I searched your knowledge base and found no information on this. I have not done anything to these menus for some time and they were working before but as of this week they are not for the Mozilla browser.

thanks much

Sandy

Dear Sandy,

I checked and I see your menus in both pages with Firefox! Did you resolve the problem in the meantime?

If not, then it is possible that you have something specific to your Firefox that is doing this. Maybe some plugin or something like that.

Can you please check and try disabling your plugins/addins one by one to see if anyone interferes with AllWebMenus? Please let me know so that we can resolve this.

Initial Email Subject: Problems with All Web Menus - compatability with Internet Explorer
Support Case Month: October 2012

I have upgraded my All Web Menus hoping that my upgrading it would resolve the problems with Internet Explorer, but even with paying for the latest upgrade the drop down menus are not compatible with Internet Explorer. Basically, it was publishing correctly to Internet Explorer until the last update from internet explorer and now none of the boxes for the separate buttons come up. However, all the boxes (buttons) come up perfectly in Mozilla Firefox. You have compatibility problems with your webmenus and the latest upgrade of Internet Explorer. Could you please correct this problem as soon as possible to that I can correct and publish my drop down menus?

Sincerely,

Mary

Hi Kostas:

When we saw the problem with the drop down menus we had our website host pull up a backup of our website and publish that, so the error is not visible right now. Basically, when we publish our website there are no boxes surrounding each category. The categories are visible, but without any boxes around each category. The URL is

{URL REMOVED}

Sincerely,

Mary

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Mary,

Sorry about this mix-up, I was confused by your first email and thought the “no boxes” issue was in Firefox – not IE.

Anyway, I now saw the problem in IE. It seems that this is generated by some old AllWebMenus code (from v3) that you have inserted multiple times in your page:

allwebmenus code

Removing this lot will fix the problem. However I recommend that you also clean up the rest of the code, as this also appears in other places in your page.

Finally I noticed that your two menus are compiled with different versions (builds 874 & 898). This is not causing any problems currently, however we recommend that multiple menus in the same page are always compiled with the same version in order to avoid possible problems in the future.

Kostas

I created a menu (AllWebMenus ver 5.3) that displays on a PC fine in ie9 and mozilla etc. but on an Ipad II in safari and on an iphone 4s the menu extends over the right side of the body of the site.

Hello,

I noticed that while your compiled menu file (menu.js) is from build 886, the online library files (“awmdata” folder) are from an older build (876).

This may be causing some issues. Could you please make sure that you uploaded the new library files (“awmdata” folder) and let me know?

I copied over the awmdata folder but that did not fix the issue.

Dear Harvey,

Would it be possible to send me a screenshot of the problem?

Also, before doing this, please try to delete the cache files from your iPad and iPhone, and refresh the page again.

I cleared the cache but still this result (see attachment)

Dear Harvey,

I noticed that the menu item letters in the screenshot you sent me are a bit different than what I see in my browser.

Is it possible that your iPad does not support the specific fonts you are using (Segoe UI, Tahoma, Verdana)? Can you remove “Segoe UI”? Tahoma and Verdana should be supported, so it should be “Segoe  UI” that is causing this. Also, you may want to reduce the item padding so that the menu is smaller than the width you want it to cover, then give the menu a minimum width of 800 to make it expand as required:

I am experiencing another issue.  I have created a new menu in a new site the url is www.materialthingsinc.com

The menu look fine in IE9 and Mozilla Firefox and even Google Chrome but on an ipad  (Safari) the font is different and the positioning is not centered.

Wonder what causes this issue?

Harvey

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Harvey,

Different browsers may show some fonts (especially the fancy ones) differently, sometimes even changing their size. This is due to the way each browser renders the font, and also depends on which font-related features you have enabled (such as the “cleantype” or anti-alias features that some browsers have to present the fonts in a more readable manner).

This however is not related to the menu and the same issue will present with simple in-page text using the same font. I am afraid that there is nothing we can do on our side regarding this. The only 100% safe solution to make sure that the fonts look identical to the pixel is to use images instead.

Still, you could change your menu Positioning to accommodate for this font change. I see that you have positioned your menu “Relative to Element” using the id “masthead”. However (If I am not mistaken) you are using the X offset to horizontally center the menu. Did you try using something like the following?

menu positioning
