Hi

We are now using the AllWebMenus Ver.5.3 build #898 to rebuild our Web menu to comply with WCAG, the menu is now by use of CSS, but we found that the menu cause "jumping effect" when the page first load (appear at the bottom left corner first then jump back to correct position). I tried in different browsers with different version, all have the same results, please kindly advise how to fix this problem (sample page: http://www.hkie.org.hk/eng/testmenu.asp), thank you.

Best regards,
Kim

Dear Kim,

I just got a reply from our developers. The easiest way to get rid of this problem is to move the UL outside the screen in the first place.

To do this, please change this:

<ul id="awmULLI-menu_e" style="display:none;">

Into this:

<ul id="awmULLI-menu_e" style="display:none; top: -9999px;">

I know it must be one of my settings, but can you tell me what I need to change at www.webs2impress.com/troy7/contracts/prime.html so that when I load the page, those submenus do not automatically display.  I DO  have it set to keep track of the url and highlight that.  Is that what is affecting it?

Thanks in advance.

Anna

Dear Anna,

Yes, the “highlight” is what is opening your submenus whenever the page loads. There is a special sub-choice to control this if you want the highlight with the submenus closed:

highlight submenu

Regarding the copying from one menu to another, currently this is only possible if you “Import” the whole second menu and then cut-out the parts you do not want.

As always, thank you so much.  As to the copying from one menu to another, I wouldn't be able to import and then delete; it would destroy what I have.  Maybe a feature to add to a future wishlist?

Anna

Dear Anna,

Why would it destroy what you have? The import would add everything under a single item, so it should be very easy to add a new item, import the second menu into that item, copy-paste what you want and then remove the item altogether.

In any case, we plan to release a new version (most likely within October) which will allow you to load multiple projects in the same AllWebMenus instance, so this will resolve the copy-paste issue too.

(your “wish” is already being developed for the past two weeks or so…)

I've had no problems with the sticky menu.... meaning that the menu shows the link of the page loaded until navigated away from it.

I experimented with the "Show Item or Group on Appear" because I wanted to see if I could have the menu expand completely on page load and highlight the page selected instead of having the sliding feature because my menu selection is so short with only 3 items. However, that did not work the way I wanted so I deselected all in that attribute. However, once I reverted the sticky menu does not work. Just my 3 navigation buttons appear on every page instead the menu staying open to the highlighted page. Can you help?

Dear Sharena,

Are you talking about the sliding menu on the left side? The “Sticky” is not relevant with what you describe. This is a feature that only applies to drop-down menus; not sliding ones.

I believe that what you were previously using was the sliding menu feature “Remember State”:

Support Case Month: August 2012

I know I can set up a window to Open on Page Load.  I believe I can also tell it to only happen the first time the user loads the window, based on a cookie.  After it has been loaded the first time, can I tell it load something in it's place after that first time?

Just a thought...I wanted to know how easy it might be to do something like this.

Thanks for any help.

Bob

Hello Bob,

I am afraid that this is not possible with the current script and many changes would have to be made in order to achieve this. Sorry for not supporting this.

Support Case Month: June 2012

I have been using your software and have worked many hours to build my own MEGA DROP DOWN menu.  I have gotten it to appear fine in IE9, but I am having trouble with the submenus in GOOGLE CHROME and FIREFOX.  Sometimes the drop down menus do not show the white background so that the text in those menus shows up easily...if I reload the page after it loads the first time, it does show properly.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Hello,

Just before the submenu opens for the first time it tries to calculate the width/height it should take.

The HTML you entered has a lot of images without specified width/height, so when it opens it becomes a given size that fits the text. Then the images load and push the text down, but the submenu cannot re-adjust itself.

If you view the page again, then the images are already cached and hence appear instantly and can be properly measured.

There are two solutions for this:

1) Specify the width/height for each image.

2) Specify the width/height of the <table> container of each submenu.
