Support Case Month: January 2013

HI Guys,

I think I've followed all the steps correctly but I get the above error when testing Web Scroller Builder Ver 1

http://www.barkingblondes.net/likno.htm

Colin

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Colin,

This appears because you do not have a Positioning Element in your page for your scroller.

The default positioning is to put the scroller within an element that has the id “liknoscroller_positionID”:

scroller positioning properties

You must create such an element in your page, or you should change the positioning to something else (e.g. “Floating” over page -> Relative to Window).

Please try adding the following code into your page:

<div id="liknoscroller_positionID">&nbsp;</div>

The scroller will appear within this div (wherever you put it).

Thanks Guys

I did have “Embedded in page ticked”, but I didn’t realize I need to add <div id="liknoscroller_positionID">&nbsp;</div> to my page before linking the page, might be worth making a youtube video on this. I want to have several of these on one page and wonder how to do this. Perhaps the video could explain that.

I’ve also just realized, that this is in a php included file but I’m sure I can work this out.

Also, I would like to know how I can have more than one scroller on a page.

Regards Colin

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Colin,

In order to have multiple scrollers in a single page, you need to make sure that each scroller has a different “compile name”:

scroller compile name properties

Please also make sure that all scrollers have the *same* “Site_Root folder” and leave the “Compiled Subfolders” to the default values.

Initial Email Subject: Menu attempts to link to local storage (site_root) address
Support Case Month: September 2012

I've made a change recently that now has menu items (in the horizontal top menu) referring to my local storage location, but I don't know what I've done.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Steve,

I checked your site but did not see such a problem! Did you correct the problem in the meantime?

If the problem is only in your pc, please note that several of your links are relative so if you see the menu in local pages it will point to other local pages (but online it will point to online pages).

Thanks for your quick reply!

I did manually correct each of the menu links, as they contained references to the local site root, but it would be great if you could help me to understand my error in inadvertently putting them in.  Could this have occurred in the compile function?

Thanks again for your great customer service and help with this issue.

Steve

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Steve,

When you say that you manually corrected the links, do you mean in the compiled file?

You should never directly edit the compiled file for two reasons:

1) it is very easy to do a mistake and render the menu fully unusable

2) every time you compile your menu, any changes you made will be lost and any error you “corrected” will reappear

If the problem was in the menu project (in the application) then this most likely occurred when you selected the link page.

If your “root folder” is in a different drive than the page you want to link, then the full path (including the drive letter) will be included.

Another thing that can produce “bad” links is if you move your whole site and change the site root (to a different drive). In this case if you select “update links” it will actually spoil them. If the whole site is moved then you should NOT choose to automatically update the links.

The menus work fine when I preview in MS Expression, but after published the index.html works fine but all of the other menus (which are the same) don't work on all the different pages. Please advise at you earliest convenience. Thanks, James

Hello,

I checked both your index and the ADB1 page, and I do not see the menu in either of them!

The reason is that the compiled menu file does not exist in the URL where they point to. This is what I get when I try to view the online menu file:

menu does not exist

I tried to open the same using this link - {URL REMOVED}   it tries to open

It attempts to open it.  This is the source code for the index.html page:

{SOURCE CODE REMOVED}

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

If you see the Linking Code it points to a different location:

src="../../WEB_BOT/BOTmenu.js"

Did you add the Linking Code manually or was it added by the application? Also, are you using the Expression Web plugin? And which version of Expression Web are you using?

I am using version 4.

I used a template to build the website and the menu was automatically placed in each page?

C:\Webs\WEB_BOT\BOTmenu.js       this is the location of file on my computer

{URL REMOVED} is this the location it should point to

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Then I guess that you just used the wrong Root Folder path in AllWebMenus. Did you use “C:\Webs\WEB_BOT” (correct) or “C:\Webs” (wrong)?

Knowledge Base support case for Likno Web Modal Windows Builder, abstracted and stripped of all user’s private info.

Initial Email From:
Michael
Initial Email Subject: General Problem with Modal-Window
Support Case Month: September 2012

Hello Kosta!

I hope you had a nice holiday?!

Please forget all the mails before, because I tried it again and again – so the links are different now …

Here are the two actual links to very simple examples.

http://www.ffwndm.de/_kostatest/index_onclick.html

http://www.ffwndm.de/_kostatest/index_textlink.html

Inside this mail you can find the complete webfolder in a zip-file and the modal-project (also zip).

Hope you can help me – think it is a basic-problem between my “ears” 😉

Thanks a lot!

Regards

Michael

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Michael,

I run several tests and I believe that the problem is related to the folder where you store your projects! Specifically, it seems that having a “#” in a folder name in the path of the Root Folder somehow confuses the application. Can you please try moving the project to a different folder (and change the Root Folder accordingly) to confirm if this is indeed the problem? For example you could use “E:\modal-test\” as your root folder.

Please let us know if this is indeed the cause of the problem, so that we can look for a permanent fix.

Hi Kosta!

You’re the greatest 😉

Indeed – it is the problem!
I’ve changed the rootfolder (without any #), changed the folders in the project, compiled the project and uploaded it.
And it works! Both – textlink and onclick …Well – I am happy that the fault was not “with me” 😉
I tried a lot of hours …OK – so I will not use a # in your software area …I do it normally for a better “overlook” to important folders in my hdd.

Will there be a fix?

Bye

Michael

Dear Michael,

We just uploaded new releases for all of our builders (Modal, Tabs, Tooltips, Scroller & Accordion) which resolve the issue with the “#” in the Root Folder path.

Please download and try the ones you have (Modal, Tooltips & Tabs) and let me know if they now work with your folders.

Initial Email From:

Initial Email Subject: Problem with AllWebMenus
Support Case Month: October 2012

Hello
I use AllWebMenus 5 (user: {INFO REMOVED}) and I have a menu running ok.
The directory structure is:
c:\RGB\menu.js
c:\RGB\awmdata
C:\RGB\awmdata\menu
The file C:\RGB\index.html use this menu to go to diferent html
C:\RGB\contacto.html
C:\RGB\supplies.html
...
I need also to use this menu from the file C:\RGB\galeria\index.html
I have try to copy menu.js to gmenu.js (to use in this new file) and modify this file but the
menu appear in the web but don't run the link.
I need help
Please, is very important for me.
Thanks in advance.
Raúl

Likno Customer Support

Dear Raul,

You should not copy the menu in multiple places. Instead, you only need to adjust the Linking Code.

In your page you have a Linking Code that looks something like this:

<!-- ******** BEGIN ALLWEBMENUS CODE FOR menu ******** -->

<script type="text/javascript">var MenuLinkedBy="AllWebMenus [4]",awmMenuName="menu",awmBN="GN";awmAltUrl="";</script>

<script charset="UTF-8" src="menu.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

<script type="text/javascript">awmBuildMenu();</script>

<!-- ******** END ALLWEBMENUS CODE FOR menu ******** -->

In order to fix the problem, all you need to do is to make sure the “src” path is correct for all pages. For example you could change it to:

    src="/RGB/menu.js"

This way, it will work regardless of how deep your folders are.

Thanks.

In the menu.js I have line like this:

it=s0.addItemWithImages(1,2,2,"Contacto",n,n,"",n,n,n,3,3,3,n,n,n,"contacto.html",n,n,n,"contacto.html",n,142,30,2,0,0,0,n, n,n,0,0,0,0,0,n,n,n,0,0,0,2,n);

where I point to a html file. But when I use the index file more deep this link don't run. I have try to write

it=s0.addItemWithImages(1,2,2,"Contacto",n,n,"",n,n,n,3,3,3,n,n,n,"contacto.html",n,n,n,"../contacto.html",n,142,30,2,0,0,0,n, n,n,0,0,0,0,0,n,n,n,0,0,0,2,n);

but continue with the same problem.

Raúl

Reply From:
Likno Customer Support

Dear Raul,

As I suggested with the “src” issue, the same applies to the links. If your links do not work in inner folders, then you need to make them “root relative”.

So you should not change them to “../contacto.html”, but to “/RGB/contacto.html”, or when you move the site online if “contacto” is a page in the root folder “/contacto.html”.
