Initial Email Subject: help/question for keyboard access to menus
Support Case Month: August 2012

Hello Support Team,

We are using AllWebMenu Pro 5.3 to create our application’s menus and have one question about it

We want the menus to be accessible with mouse AS WELL AS keyboard

Are there any keyboard shortcuts to access the menu with keyboard or a way we can provide in the menus generated with allwebmenus

So the user can use keyboard to access and use menus as well as submenu with keyboard

Our application uses frames and the menus are in the top frame

Thank you,

Akash

Dear Akash,

The keyboard shortcut to cycle through the page menus is “Ctrl+F12”. The navigation is performed with the arrow keys.

It is possible that the focus will have to be in the top frame in order for this to work. If this does not work, please send me the URL so that I can test it myself.

Kostas

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Akash,

I tried viewing your menu, but the system you have does not let me…

Specifically, when I try to view only the frame that holds the menu it seems that I get redirected to some other page which is broken.

Also when I try to guess the menu path (using the source code info) I always get a “page not found”, for all the URLs I tried:

{URL REMOVED}

Where is the menu actually uploaded?

What I mostly wanted to check is the version of the menu you are using. If it is old it may not support keyboard navigation at all, as this is a relatively recent feature.

Hello Kostas,

Thank you for the quick response

Below is the link to get the menu ‘s java script

as I remember we deployed these menus using version 5.3

I don’t think you will be able to just load the top frame separately, the whole page has to be viewed with frames

Do let me know if you need any more information to help with this

Thanks

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Indeed, the version you have does not support Keyboard Navigation. You are using build 870 and this feature was added in build 880.

According to your license you can get up to build 892 for free, so I suggest that you do this and recompile your menus.

(you can get this from your User Area account)

Hello Kostas,

We downloaded and installed build 892

And compiled menu in new version (menu_worker.js)

But still we are not able to use the keyboard shortcut

we did make sure the focus was on that frame the menu is in and  tried to use with

both the shortcut keys “ctrl+F12” as you said and as well shift “shift+F12” as in help file and menu options

but it did not work

we have updated that menu on the link we provided earlier

We will appreciate if we can figure this issue out

Thank you for your support

Dear Akash,

I am afraid I have bad news.

I discussed this issue with our main developer and he told me that the keyboard navigation was never supported for cross-frame environments due to JavaScript security restrictions.

Sorry about this!

Hi, I bought your Allwebmenus pro and am satisfied with it. However, I made cross frame menu and found that it worked at any browsers except Chrome. Would you please tell me how to fix it?

Can you please send us the URL so that we can check your menu? Normally there shouldn't be any problems with Chrome.

Hello Kostas,

Thank you for your reply.
I checked the browser again and am confused a little bit:
the cross-frame menu only failed to perform on the chrome "in my computer" (os: win7):
chrome in my computer ->failed
chrome in other computer ->ok
chromium (linux) ->ok
IE in any computer ->ok
Firefox in any computer ->ok
Safari in any computer ->ok
Opera ->ok

maybe i will check again and let you know if it keeps happening. thanks!

Hello,
Can you please check if you have any addins that may be affecting your Chrome?
The best way to test for this is to disable them one by one until you find which one causes the problems.
If this is the case, please let us know so that we can contact the addin developer and find a solution.

hello,
i found the problem happens only when i tried to view the page from local driver. Thus, the problem might be derived from win7.

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello again,

I am glad to hear that you resolved the issues you had.

Regarding Chrome and local files, keep in mind that this may be due to the increased security features of Chrome, which may block different local files from interacting with each-other through frames.

The same would be true for online files if they come from different domains (note here that “likno.com” and “www.likno.com” may be considered a different domain in Chrome!).

However in local files the security is increased so they may be blocked from interacting with each other, even if they are in the same folder.

Initial Email From:

Initial Email Subject: Web Buttons
Support Case Month: September 2012

Hi,

I am, working on a sharepoint site.

seems that it wont allow any graphics, png, jpeg or otherwise.

however, the code works on the page without the graphic, I simple show a square area where the graphic should be.

I would prefer to have a simple scripted button in html, simple block, color, rollover color, I don't want it to be a graphic, it wont work...

just need a simple button, that I can navigate to another page, css simple button.

I paid for your software in hopes that it might work,  however It does not,I just need a simple css button... is this possible? can you show or send me a script? I am under a deadline and I have to have this solves asap.... now.. please help, thanks

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello,

I am afraid that Button Maker does not produce plain CSS buttons. If you want we can probably send you some custom code for this, but I believe we should first see why the images don’t work!

Normally you should not have a problem with images, so maybe something went wrong. Can you please send me the URL of a page where the image buttons don’t work so that I can have a look?

Hi Kostas,

Thanks for getting back to me.

The problem is I am working with SharePoint Server/Designer building custom pages.

The customer/vendor I am working for has every security feature locked down in sharepoint server. So no custom code, no graphics on buttons, or activex.

The only thing I can do is create CSS Buttons with typical background colors, fonts, shapes.  Also,  it would be great if the code generated could be of inline style (Self Contained)  for each button… (I hope this makes sense?)

I really like the program,  very well done,  just in this case with everything locked down when I go to attempt to use these buttons and save with sharepoint designer.(Have to use this.. no other choice)  it strips out the button image, and function,   leaves me with an empty clear box with a working link.

Hope this is helpful,  if you could send some custom code, or update, ideas?,   I would be grateful.

Thanks

John

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear John,

If you are forced to work in such a restricted environment, then indeed there is no way for us to work around it.

In this case you’ll need to create a CSS design yourself, with plain colors and maybe rounded borders.

An example of such buttons would be:

<style>
    .myButtons {

border: #000066 2px solid;

        border-radius: 10px;

background-color: #BBBBFF;

        color: #000066;

padding: 2px 5px;

        text-decoration: none;

    }

    .myButtons:hover {

border-color: #0000DD;

        background-color: #CCCCFF;

    }
</style>

<a href="mypage.html" class="myButtons">Home</a>
<a href="mypage.html" class="myButtons">Products</a>
<a href="mypage.html" class="myButtons">Support</a>

Of course you will have to change the colors etc.

For more detailed help on how to use CSS styling, please have a look here:

Hey Kostas,

I think this might work.

I am having a problem in trying to figure out how to write css code that would apply to strictly each button and or each page.( as I remember inline styles cant have any button hover functions).

The problem I am having in writing this CSS code is when placed in my page the buttons grow/shrink width wise depending on the length of the text so my buttons are never the same widths.  They absolutely have to all be the same widths and I can’t figure out how to make this happen.

Hopefully your solution will work for me.

Thanks very much

John

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear John,

I believe you need to refresh your CSS with a bit of reading through the site I sent you. Smile

In order to force a specific width, just add the following line in your “myButtons” CSS rule:

width: 100px;

Also, as you said, inline styles cannot account for hover functions. This is why you should use “CSS classes” instead as per my example. Note that you can have multiple classes for differently styled buttons, and you only need to add:

class="myclassname"

to each of your DIVs to turn them into a button.

Initial Email From:

Initial Email Subject: Compiled libraries deprecating SSL
Support Case Month: October 2012

Dear Kosta

I have just applied a SSL certificate on my server and I noticed something strange on some of the pages being served and that is: the padlock icon disappeared. And after some investigation & trying, I discovered the compiled libraries is cause of the problem. When I remove the SRC tag in the scripts, the padlock appears again.

Is there any work-around for this issue.

Thanks
Roy

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Roy,

Are you referring to the security icon? I am not sure on what would be the problem, but I know that loading external scripts may be considered insecure in https sites, depending on where the scripts load from. For example if you have a full-path in the Linking Code it may be insecure while a relative path may be ok.

Can you test this and let me know?

Yes I am referring to the security icon.

Can you explain the difference between a full-path & relative path for me to test on.

Full-path:

Root-relative path:

Kostas

Please refer to the screen shot attached.

The Compiled Subfolders (\likno-moda-admin) are normally what I put in place

for all my Modal window projects.

I carry out an experiment by try & error to see which files are creating the problem

and the result is:

If I

1) Leave the “jquery.js” file in the \likno-moda-admin folder and

2) Place the “likno-modal-lib.js” & “likno-modal-project.js” in the root directory “C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Billing” and

3) Change the tag to src="likno-modal-project.js"

the padlock appears. Any other placements would cause the padlock top disappear.

Maybe you like to advice me how II should place compile properties so that that icon remains.

Thanks
Roy

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Dear Roy,

I think there is a misunderstanding here… I was not referring to the Compile Properties!

My suggestion was that you only change the Linking Code in the actual HTML page. Did you try this?

In your page you should have something like this (this is copied from our own site):

<!-- ******** BEGIN LIKNO WEB MODAL WINDOWS CODE FOR likno-modal-for-lwsc-examples ******** -->

<script type="text/javascript">var lwmwLinkedBy="LiknoWebModalWindows [1]",lwmwName="likno-modal-for-lwsc-examples",lwmwBN="246";</script><script charset="UTF-8" src="/likno-scripts/likno-modal-for-lwsc-examples.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

<!-- ******** END LIKNO WEB MODAL WINDOWS CODE FOR likno-modal-for-lwsc-examples ******** -->

I only suggested that you change the highlighted path to be a full-path.

1) If I changed to ="/likno-scripts/likno-modal-for-lwsc-examples.js"

It works. Provided the “jquery.js” file stays in the folder \likno-moda-admin folder

Are you in Norway? Did you get such complaints from more people there? It would be *very* weird if this is related to location! Is it possible that you have some plugin/addin on your Safari and this is causing the problem? Can you check your addins and disable them one by one to see if something changes?

Please let me know of your findings. In the meantime I will also contact some friends with Mac, iPads etc. to test your menu there.

Reply From: Gus

Hi,

Yes, we have done some more testing.

The menu works on my iPhone and iPad (OS6), but not in Safari on my Windows 7 PC at home. However, it works in Safari 5.1.7 on my Windows 7 PC at work! And I cannot find any differences in the options set between the two!!! Both use the default settings from Apple.

The menu works on a couple of Mac’s, and an iPad one of my nephews have.

The menu does NOT work on an iPad my niece have.

The mystery deepens!

Reply From: Likno Customer Support

Hello again,

So the menu does not work in Safari on win7 at your home PC and on your nephew’s iPad?

I wonder what the connection can be! Is it possible that you are using the same “security” or “ad-block” or similar application?

Is it possible that you have disabled JavaScript in both? Or that you have the same Safari plugin that causes the problem?
