Initial Email Subject: I need some help again if possible.

Initial Email From: Anthony

Hello again.

I have an old website which I need some help with. I am in the process of making it iPhone friendly and in the process have made it Android unfriendly.

The YouTube video on the 'home' page is set to be transparent. This causes the menu to show up on top of the video. It works everywhere except on my Android (DroidX). And my client happens to have the same phone that I do.

So... my question is how can I get the menu to show up above the YouTube video on Androids also?

Sincerely,

-Anthony

Dear Anthony,

This is a known bug of the Android platform, or rather the Flash plugin for Android.

Unfortunately there is nothing that we can do to work around this, as the flash will ignore everything else and stay on top.

We have contacted both Google and Adobe regarding this issue but have yet to receive an answer. Hopefully they will correct this soon, but until then you may have to just avoid having things at the same space as flash objects.

Best Regards,
Kostas

YouTube videos use the "iframe" element (since February 2011), which makes a video show above submenus unless you add the "wmode=transparent" special parameter to its URL.

In case your YouTube URL does not use any parameters (no "?" character exists) then you should use the "?" character to add the special parameter:

<iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/n1VTcJfL7RE?wmode=transparent" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

In case your YouTube URL already uses parameters (the "?" character exists) then you should use the "&" character to add the special parameter:

<iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/n1VTcJfL7RE?hd=1&wmode=transparent" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
