About DirectX 8.1
Windows XP installs DirectX 8.1 by default. Older versions of Windows (non-XP versions) do not include the DirectX 8.1 version by default. To determine which version of Microsoft DirectX is installed on your PC please follow the directions below:
1. On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Run dialog box, type dxdiag
3. Click OK. A dialog box displays the version that you are running.
If you are using a non-XP Windows version and your DirectX version is older than 8.1, please download the latest DirectX from the Microsoft website for free.
